WORTH CONSUMING!

Readable story about a variety of people in Cedar Grove, focusing on some of the relationships between some of the people in the town. You know that there are sequels and that there are more stories to be told.

WORTH CONSUMING!

readable but not really to my taste Fantasy adventure. Gritty springs to mind and then you wonder why so many characters have to die. It does seem to read a bit like the novelisation of a set of long-term role-playing sessions.

The Raven are a mercenary company who are convinced to search for the elements for a spell called the Dawnthief which in the wrong hands could cause the end of the world. But are their hands the best hands?

Readable story about a teenage who becomes a werewolf from a bite so as to be the partner of a female werewolf. Then they discover that he may be the saviour or the ruin of the werewolf race. Well researched.

WORTH CONSUMING!

perhaps if I’d read it immediately after book 2 it would have been a better read but it was a little disappointing and I found myself not really caring about the characters.

Hilarious and well written it’s well worth reading. Beginner bounty hunter meets problems – not least of which is that the guy she’s after is a childhood sweetheart and she still fancies the pants off him!
I’ve since read some of the sequels and they are also quite fun.

A review of "Scandalous Society" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A biography of Count Alfred d’Orsay, a dandy, soldier and celebrity in Nineteenth Century Britain and France. It’s an interesting read for anyone interested in the Regency to Victorian period.
Count d’Orsay met with most of the great names of the time, Dickens, Thackery, Byron and many others, and drew them.
The book is interesting but irritatingly does not provide translations of the french quotes, and although I do understand them in a general way I’m sure there’s implications I missed with not having an in depth knowledge of french. It follows Count d’Orsay’s life from birth to death and sometimes doesn’t get as in depth as you’d perhaps like. His life was tinged with scandal as he was closely linked to both Lord and Lady Blessinton, possibly sexually close. The Bibliography is extensive and it’s well indexed.
Nick Foulkes is quite nasty about the Irish of the period and also has a tendency to be a bit judgemental about manners and mores of the time.

I enjoyed this one, but would probably have enjoyed it more if I’d waited for the rest! The story of Jai, son of Soz and imperriled imperial macinations.

Difficult to pin down which story actually made me think more, or shudder, or wonder, or want to explore history more, but good, readable and above all challenging. Mary Gentle isn’t one of my favourite writers but she does grasp my attention and keep it while I’m reading her books. Previous characters appear her, sometimes in cameo, and the post-story notes are quite interesting and do add to the story.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Between 150 and 200 pages of this are actual plot out of a book that’s over 650 pages long, the rest is mostly soft porn. The series has turned into a Anita shagathon, and as it’s getting repeditive it isn’t even erotic anymore it’s just skim-worthy. The justification is also kinda corny. I’m quite glad that I only spent 5.99 on it in a sale.
