I. Warshawski novel. I am a very recent discoverer of Ms. Paretsky’s, but she continues to keep me coming back for more. In Total Recall, the combination of flashback sequences and Warshawski’s own original detective flair add up to me eagerly awaiting each new page, yet savoring each one to delay the eventual ending.

I have only recently begun to be interested in detective novels, but I feel as though I have made several good choices for a beginner, this being one of them. Fast-paced, interesting, and readable, this book is hard to put down. Although a bit implausible in places, the engaging dialogue makes up for any unbelievability.

Perhaps a need for “brain candy,” an easy-to-read book, for a change, or perhaps it was the pagan-like undertones seen on the blurb. In any case, I am glad now that I did purchase it. Yes, it is a romance novel, which I normally abhor, but the pace is quick, and the imagery and storyline appropriately romantic.

The first one I read had me wanting more, so I picked this one up. It ended up being just as excellent as the last one I had read, although I find myself dissatisifed with the way the relationship between Alex and Robin was just left hanging….guess I’ll have to buy the next one. :D

It is one of the only Darkover novels I haven’t read yet. I am on pins and needles waiting for a good, quiet time to start this one! :D
/edit/ This book turned out to be WONDERFUL. There were a few inconsistencies, but I think it just came more from it having to be finished by a different author. All in all, a very satisfying read, and I can’t wait for the next one!

A story about "Billy Straight"

Billy Straight

by Jonathan Kellerman

Someone passed this book on to me, and since I had had so much enjoyment from previous Kellerman books, I had a good feeling about this one. And that feeling is turning out to be quite correct! Although the main character isn’t Kellerman’s famous Alex Delaware, the female detective at the center of this one is jsut as engaging, tough, and realistic. And the plight of Billy Straight is truly heartbreaking, particularly if you have a child near to the same age as he is.

Moved on to Harry Potter instead. LoL

K. Rowling

Ooooooo, I FINALLY get to read this! I bought it for my son, but for some reason he hasn’t been particularly interested, so I scarfed it so I could read it, and I am so glad I did! So far, it’s dark, angry, angtsy, and wonderful. :) And turned out awesome, if still dark, in the end!
