A story about "Dr. Death: A Novel" — 1 year ago
What I learned while reading Dr Death by Jonathan Kellerman:
Tegretol is the med of last resort for people suffering from psychotic episodes.
I'm currently reading 4 books, listening to 1 album, watching 6 movies, eating and drinking 2 food items, and consuming 2 other things.
What I learned while reading Dr Death by Jonathan Kellerman:
Tegretol is the med of last resort for people suffering from psychotic episodes.
What I learned while reading “A Painted House’ by John Grisham:
1.) The 1952 World Series was played between the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers.
2.) Before the Cardinals played in Busch Stadium, they played in Sportsmans Park.
3.) Cotton is picked off the bole.
I didnt even realize Bill Romanowski (the steroid freak) was in this movie till I checked the credits on imdb.
I totally concur with the part about the mailboxes. Portraying senseless vandalism as funny is a very cheap way to get a laugh.
Portraying nerds as nerdly, on the other hand, is a very classy way to get a laugh
What I learned while watching the “Inn of the Sixth Happiness” 1958:
1.) The song we all know as “This Old Man” was hatched in England and was called “The Children’s Marching Song”. It, therefore, was apropos that the 100 children sang this song in their trek across the mountains.
2.) This movie again drove home for me the reason why some Chinese to this day do not like the Japanese. The Sino-Japanese war of the 30’s was particularly brutal.
What I learned from reading “Beyond Recognition” by Ridley Pearson..
The floating bridge in Seattle has traffic patterns the opposite of what you might expect (Microsoft is on the East side/away from Seattle), and is at the end of it’s useful life. It has to be closed during high winds.
Tarot/fortune tellers could work a scam by having an accomplice look in your car, thus radio-ing back personal info that the card-reader could “sooth.”
What I put into practice after reading “31 days to self esteem” by Terry Bragg:
1.) I now have a “patience” anchor. Two fingers to the jugular.
2.) I dont criticize. I critique. And when I self-critique, I give myself the chance to finish. Critiqueing during, or even worse before, is destructive.
3.) I meditated for several days on how I’m not my body.
What I learned from reading “Bone Key” by John Sandiford:
1.) ullage is the term used for the distance between the cork and the wine level.
2.) First harvest is the from the virgin grape, and often leads to higher wine values.
What I learned from reading “A Brief History of Time”:
The doppler effect is that the pitch intensifies the closer an object gets to us, and the lower it gets as it passes.
That Galileo’s observance of Jupiter’s moons, and the fact that they revolved around Jupiter, was the driving force behind the “the universe doesnt revolve around us” theory.
The “string theory” started in 1964.
That I am no physicist!!!
What I learned:
That RFK was killed on June 5th in the KITCHEN of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.
That it was 1978 that Ali lost to Spinks and then beat him.
That on Sept 13th, 1928, Lake Okechobee in Florida flooded and killed several hundred people.
Acute Myeoblastic Luekemia is the deadliest form of luekemia.
That according to quantum mechanics, sometimes the effect comes BEFORE the cause.
If you want the US to get involved in your country’s atrocities it helps to:
a.) have oil there
b.) have your dictator goad us into it
Milosevich did neither of these, and got away with genocide in Bosnia to the tune of about 200,000.
Oh, and it also helps to be Christian, as the Muslims in Bosnia would probably attest.
This book really challenged my peacenik nature, as history would show that appeasers rarely get what they want (stop aggression).
