With the format of this book, it’s more fun to just keep picking it up and reading pieces at a time than to read it all in one sitting. When I first got it, rather than read it cover to cover, I would open to random pages to read a random item. I picked it up when I was just starting college and beginning to come out of a bad place in my life – a time when I really needed it. I put it down for nearly 2 years, and picked it up again this Summer out of sheer desire to check off one more book on the “Unread Books On My Shelf” list. I guess this site has been pretty good for me ;) It’s a good little read that makes you think about some stuff that should be pretty obvious but is often taken for granted.

Went out to this one tonight. What the hell did I just watch? I definitely wanted to come home, crawl up with a Bible, and never, ever, do anything that might result in me carrying a demonspawn. It was like Final Destination with more improbable and violent deaths.

At 708 pages, this book could use a lot more spice to make it a page-turner. With so many names to keep track of in each sentence and the author’s tendency to jump around between families and time periods, it can be a very confusing and ultimately boring read. Parts of it were interesting, and there’s certainly no lack of information in it, but it’s definitely not one of my favorite reads ever.
