A little reindition of “My Milkshake” always gets a good laugh, too. I was horrified at how funny I found this collection of sophomoric humor. It’s a guilty pleasure.

How many of us went to college not knowing what we wanted to do, or worse yet, knowing what we wanted to do and selling out for a temp job that we’re still working 5 years later? This movie is a wake up call for everyone living a beige existence, gophering in gray cubicle world and longing to be somewhere else. You are not alone! Unite and burn your TPS reports! Take baseball bats to faulty printers! And by god, don’t you dare lay a pinky finger on my stapler.

Far fetched, at times outlandish, but I enjoyed looking at Jake Gyllenhall, even if he made the bad decision of burning books instead of all those hardwood tables and chairs in the library. I mean really – paper over wood? Give me a break! Still, in the end, it was a great mind-numbing way to pass a couple of hours. I was definitely entertained.

Ocean’s 11 was clever and had wonderful twists to the plot. Oceans 12 was a waste of an excellent cast. It lost me completely 45 minutes into the film, I couldn’t make myself finish it.

These were always strange, somewhat detached folks in clothing that wasn’t quite mainstream with unusual languages rolling off their tongue trying to breathe life into their stories and make them real to those of us sitting in folding chairs, wearing our Sunday clothes, and distracted by the smell of coffee brewing.

I left the rigors of the church years ago, and reveled in the disenchantment the characters experienced as their well intentioned father came unglued while rying to force 500 years of change on people who didn’t give a flying frog fart about his god or his rules. It’s a glorious story.

A story about "Ya-Yas in Bloom: A Novel"

Ya-Yas in Bloom: A Novel

by Rebecca Wells

Wells seems to have pushed the Ya-Ya franchise a bit far with this latest addition. The stories paled in comparison to the other books, and it reads like the author has been through some expensive and extensive therapy. It was a kinder, gentler Ya-Yas, and I’m not sure I liked that. It was a fast, entertaining read, but lacked the spark of the other books.

A good read.

A story about "Running with Scissors: A Memoir"

I alternated between amazement, horror, and awe while reading this book. How anyone could emerge from a childhood like that and still be able to string together coherent sentences is a mystery to me.
