I love Heatwave and they are in constant rotation on my ipod. I listen to “Boogie Nights” on my walk to work and it gets me prepared for whatever I am going to have to face.

I used to sing “Always & Forever” to my baby when she was teething—it was the only song she would fall asleep to.

Reading Lessons: An Introduction to Theory

Although I have finished my MA, I didn’t feel that I was competent enough when it came to literary theory. In an effort to become a better scholar, and to be a better educator, I decided to brush up a bit. I have gleaned this book during my MA work, but decided to read it thoroughly during my twice/week commute to my teaching gig.

Carpenter has really made me understand theory and its applications much better. I’m almost finished!

This CD was OK. All of his music has started to sound alike to me, which shows little to no growth as an artist. Very formulaic—same notes, pitch, riffs, etc.

I saw him in concert with Jill Scoot at Radio City Music Hall last month and his set wes OK. He didn’t really move me.

Black Reconstruction in America, 1860-1880

I had to read this for a class in grad school. At first, I was daunted by the size and scope of this work, but ater I got into the meat of the book, I loved it. DuBois was a real revolutionary. The black working class (and all working folks for that matter) are getting the short end of the stick and he predicted it.

Great book. Great read.
