The Basic Workout
The thing I love about this workout tape so far is the people in the video. They aren’t fluffed and smiling and looking perfect. They’re sweating and looking just as exhausted as any other normal person would. I like that.
I was doing this off and on for a few weeks, last year. Even though I wasn’t watching what I ate I still lost a little weight.
So far this book isn’t what I expected, but I’m keeping an open mind.
I read this book some time ago. I’ve forgotten nearly everthing. I ‘m planning to skim through it again.
Last night I read the first four chapters (Part One). According to the self tests, my reading comprehension is average and my reading speed is poor. :(
They say my two main problems are subvocalization and back tracking. I didn’t think these were bad things but we’ll see. Without the occasional backtracking I’d think my reading comprehension would go down. As for subvocalization, that was a habit I purposely developed when I was a kid, to help me feel comfortable reading out loud. I’ll try it their way for a while and see how it goes.
I once read a magazine article that said, “You know you’re middle aged when you realize that you’ll never live long enough to read all the books you’ve set aside for later.” Now, I’m not there yet, but I’m getting close. My list of must reads and want to reads is quite long and getting longer. I’ve thought of writing my favorite authors, asking them to stop putting out such good books for a few years so I can catch up. I doubt they would though. So here is Plan B. Speed Reading.
This was the first Mary Higgins Clark book I ever read. I was 15 and at the beach with my friend. She handed me the book and said, “Read this. It’s good.”
I’m trying to get back to a certain place. Not a final point but a starting point. As I looked over the table of contents, and this book seemed like a good way to prepare for my journey.

It was the fault of the reader. After rereading the book everything was clearer.
The book explains that there are different types of prayer and different ways of praying. Some are not appropriate for all situations. An example they used was Matthew 18:19 I also tell you this-if two of you agree down here on earth concerning anything you ask for, my Father in heavan will do it for you. The book says that is only talking about matters that concern the people doing the praying and their situation. If two or three people want to pray for someone else, another type of prayer is needed. These different types are discussed in detail.
Worth it or not worth it? I don’t feel qualified to make that judgement. There were many things in there that I hadn’t heard before or simply didn’t understand, but there is a lot I don’t know. So I will leave that task to someone better qualified.
