WORTH CONSUMING!

This is an odd film, mainly troubling to me because I found myself sympathising with Gene Tierney’s character. In lots of reviews she’s described as “evil” or “vicious” but really she seemed sad and pathetic. Yes murderous, but compared with other, similar, genre films her character wasn’t that bad in the circumstances.

She gets no love or intimacy from her husband (a man who pursued her despite her already being attached to another)and then he goes off with her sister. That is no excuse for murder obviously but it’s a pitiable situation.

A story about "Celia (1989) ( Celia: Child of Terror ) [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - United Kingdom ]" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a film for which “worth consuming” is inadequate. Celia however is wonderful. I very nearly watched it a second time the following day it’s so great.

The acting, screenplay, visuals… everything was masterfully done.

LOVE IT!

A story about "Cinema 16 - British Short Films" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Although the 16 films vary in quality and value they are all nice to compare and contrast. The collection includes:

  • About a Girl – Brian Percival
  • Boy & Bicycle – Ridley Scott
  • Dear Phone – Peter Greenaway
  • Doodlebug – Christopher Nolan
  • Eight – Stephen Daldry
  • Gasman – Lynne Ramsay
  • Girl Chewing Gum – John Smith
  • Home – Morag McKinnon
  • Joyride – Jim Gillespie
  • Inside Out – Tom & Charles Guard
  • Je T’aime John Wayne – Toby Macdonald
  • The Sheep Thief – Asif Kapadia
  • The Short & Curlies – Mike Leigh
  • Telling Lies – Simon Ellis
  • UK Images – Martin Parr
  • Who’s My Favourite Girl? – Adrian J. McDowall

All have director commentaries although some films are so short the commentary can’t cover much ground which is a shame.

My favourites were Gasman, Je T’aime John Wayne, Girl Chewing Gum and Joyride which is genuinely scary. I realise that I’ve listed a quarter of the films but they are so different to each other it would have been difficult to narrow down further.
