A story about "The Gypsy" — 49 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked this a lot. Later I found that Brust had written some lyrics or some other kind of accompaniment attaached to a Boiled in Lead cd of the same name (I think it may have actually been created specifically for the book, but I’m not sure). I special ordered it from Tune Town down in Mankato. It took a few MONTHS for it to come in, and when it did I didn’t have the ready cash. A few weeks later when I stopped in to pick it up, I found out that they’s sent it back. Why the heck did they send it back?? Put it on the frigging shelf man, and sell it. I’ve met more than a few fans of Boiled in Lead since we’ve moved down this way. Geez.

A story about "Agyar" — 49 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book was under the radar awesome. I wasn’t expecting this to be as cool as it turned out to be. I’ve never been a fan of the vampire sub-genre, so I groaned to myself when I’d originally picked this one up back when it first hit the shelves. Then I didn’t actually read it for a few months. When I finally did I was kicking myself for ever doubting the man.

A refreshing take on a tiring genre — 49 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Along with the original and appropriate quoptes at the beginning of each chapter, I really enjoyed how the majority of the tale was being told to us in a style resembling somebody sitting and talking at a bar or around a fire with us rather than the safer, normal way of presenting a story – the style was reminiscent of Zelazny, who has never steered me wrong.

Vlad is an interesting hero. As an assassin, he protrays this particular poker face to the world at large, when in reality he seems to be questioning himself and his motives every step of the way. Is he tough? Yeah, I think so, but more in the fabric of his character and reflection of that character’s history rather than the “I’m a fantasy hero” tough had been typically portayed in the genre up to and during the 80’s. I like Vlad and always have. Alright, yeah he can kick some serious tail when the occasion calls for it as well…

I liked this book a lot when I read it for the first time years and years ago. I think it’s due for a reread.

Easily one of my favorite Vlad books. It really stands out for me. I think this, Jhereg, and Phoenix are my favorites.

Not nearly as good as the title would suggest.

A story about "The Day the Earth Stood Still [Theatrical Release]" — 49 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It was decent. I understood what they were trying to do with the ending but I still found it too abrupt.
