Shallow/unrealistic characters, uninspired plot, predictable. The writing itself was fine, though.

Wow! This is an AWESOME book! I could not put it down, and ended up reading its 408 pages in a day and a bit. This novel has everything going for it! Great writing, great story, believable characters, the right amounts of tension, action, drama, thought-provoking ideas and revelations… I definitely recommend this!
Great book. A little cliche, but I forgive it because it was printed in ‘66.
The story was overcomplicated, requiring a great deal of thought to unravel the roles every character played in the plot. The book was well written, though, and the characters were realistic.
I originally bought this because I thought it was the book that the movie Lost Boys was based on. I’m not so much a vampire fan, but basically every book that has had a movie made from it has, for me, proven well worth reading. This is a great book, and although describing what happens in the majority of the book (family troubles, work problems) would sound boring, the book itself is anything but. An excellent read!
It was very good! I couldn’t put it down and ended up reading it within one day. It may not be for some people because a couple scenes are graphic or disturbing. I have, thus far, never been disappointed in any science-fiction/horror book.
I wouldn’t recommend this. Unimaginative aliens, horrible sentence structure (sentence fragments everywhere). The back of the book says aliens and humans are “fiercely incompatible” but I see no evidence of this in the actual book. The story is okay, but nothing amazing. Read it if there is nothing else handy and you are bored out of your skull.
I had been searching for this book for a while, and it wasn’t nearly as good as I remember it being.
A great book. It is huge, but I didn’t want it to end.
