A story about "Four Daughters" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I enjoy classic movies and back in the 30s, the Lane Sisters had a couple of movies with the one above the first of a series. It also helped jumpstart the career of John Garfield; just a brief sypnosis; Claude Rains is the head of a musical group of daughters who perform together and have the regular pains of growing into womanhood. interesting;

A story about "Cinematherapy: The Girl's Guide to Movies for Every Mood" — 3 years ago

Although I enjoy books like this, I just cannot deal with the author’s asides like in describing Marty as a “Brooklyn butcher”, when anyone who is a cinema noir knows fully well that Marty was based in my hometown of The Bronx. Or dismissing The Women, even though I tend to categorize it as such as a must miss film for it’s dated ideas and frivolity; I feel one SHOULD watch it for the mere fact that only WOMEN were in this film, a rarity that was unique for it’s time. But hey, this is just one females opinion of a book. Look out for mine coming to a store near you!

A story about "A Perfect Stranger" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

One of my absolute favorite books; I used to wear that poor paperback book out; It told the story of a young woman, Raphaella, who married a much older man. And they were truly happy until he had a series of strokes that leave him bedridden; Raphaella stays by his side and on a trip to NY, meets a man who stirs in her long buried memories of love. Now the dillemma of who to be with comes into play. Interesting story.

A story about "Miss Rhythm: The Autobiography of Ruth Brown, Rhythm and Blues Legend" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I read this book awhile back and got caught up on this lovely lady; sadly, Ruth Brown passed away this past weekend at age 78, and to know more of her life and all, please pick up a copy of this book; This lady helped build Atlantic Records when it was still in its infancy, her songs were big hits in the 1950s; she faded but came back strong and started the Rhythm and BLues Foundation which yearly remembers other entertainers with awards and money;

I have had this CD for some years now and I felt inspired to play this CD today and especially listen to “To Be Like Jesus” on track #6; All of Hez’s music speak to my soul and is a balm to me when needed.

WORTH CONSUMING!

To be honest, I cannot watch all of this without wincing, looking away or feeling bad; the end scene where he talked about saving more tugged at me. Interesting.

A story about "Phat Girlz" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked it but folks gave it a bad rap because it was dismissed as trifling and silly; but there are women who need to feel good about who they are. Interesting.

A story about "What I Know for Sure: My Story of Growing Up in America" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Very good book; very good; I had some reservations on some things; it seems as though each experience he went through, the beatings, being fired by BET, he made it out to be like a humiliation; which it was, but don’t dwell on it; shucks, for each dead end he hit, he ended up into something better and that is what I learned from this book; I admire Tavis and the things he does. he went to Cuba as part of a team and interviewed Castro; he wanted a book he brought about Cuba published in the US along autographed from him, but Castro wanted the book too and asked for it, he said no; he kept asking and indicated that if Castro had sent him anything, the US would have tapped his phones for the rest of his natural life and he didn’t want that. Castro relented, called him stubborn and signed the book; that’s sticking to your guns.
