This is a very dense book that doesn’t really start making sense until the end. I think this is one of those books that will become easier with time, a lot like William Gibson’s first few books, as every chapter isolated is excellent.
Waiting on Season 3 now – with Mary Kate Olsen as an added bonus – as I blasted through the first two seasons in about a fortnight. I love the humour, the sex and the conflict. It’s a shame this is one of those shows that gets buried on cable TV over here.
The second you start taking Coupland seriously, you lose. I liked the references, I loved the incessant flow of men/women in Ethan’s Mom’s life (Coupland has something of a trademark with his Mom characters, no?) and the Hole. And Kam Fong. And Cowboy! The references could end up being out of date, but who cares? I had a good time reading this book.
For the 90s version, check out Freeway (starring Reese Witherspoon/Kiefer Sutherland/Brooke Shields/Brittany Murphy).
If you’ve watched any kind of quality independent movies, you’ll find this lame. Lame, lame, lame. I rate this down with Gigli as one of the most lacking films in existence.
I expected better. I liked the plot and the premise of the movie, but the execution was more than poor. Maybe it’s better to read the book…
The first 10 minutes bored me to tears, so I fastforwarded to the last 30 minutes and went from there. The tensions between the two characters (at the end) were pretty interesting, but if I’d made myself sit through the whole thing, I wouldn’t have found any merit in it whatsoever. There’s no rule saying you have to anyway. Maybe Gallo just needed someone to kick his ass towards the editing suite.
Fun movie, but could have been 30 minutes shorter for everyone’s sake.
