WORTH CONSUMING!

Although the movie is wildly different from the book in many ways, it stays true to the overall atmosphere and tone of the book. In some ways, I think I might have even liked the movie more than the book.

Weeks after seeing this I still can’t decide if I hated it or if the ideas were mildly interesting. Basically: fun to watch special effects, predictable story, cheesy dialogue. But I’m a bit of a sucker for films that explore the definitions of good and evil, so I’m going to say it barely makes it into the worth it category.

If you think of it as a movie about invisible zombies you might just like it better. That was my approach anyway. Everything is better with zombies. Still, the film has many problems—like its extremely weak ending.

A weird, weird documentary. Interesting to see that rural Canadian men are so similar to rural U.S. men, but beyond that I just ended up feeling sorry for this guy. If the point of the film was to laugh at him then I think that is in bad taste. If it wasn’t to laugh at him…I can’t possibly come up with a reason for making this film. Either way, the film left me unsettled.

I liked the ending, but found most of the film tedious.

Another one of those movies I saw because of my husband…Could have been much, much shorter.

Much of this story was boring and superfluous but the ending was a great commentary on education and the time period’s “re-education.”

WORTH CONSUMING!

I felt a little bit used by this film realizing how the “coincidence” scene at the beginning was used to set up the weird occurrence at the end. I’m not sure the filmmaker actually understood the difference between coincidence (an occurrence of two or more events at one time apparently by mere chance) and just a bizarre, unlikely occurrence.
I’m also not sure the film really needed to be three hours long. And Tom Cruise creeped me out big time.
In spite of all that, I still think the film was worth it. Good music, some good tension, some interesting characters, and it left me thinking about monogamy, family, and love.

One thing I found impressive about this artist was the absolute clarity of her words.

Haunting and bleak, as others have mentioned.

It seemed liked McCarthy wrote this (my speculation only) because he was readjusting to life after having a child (as I’m told all parents do because life means something completely different to them) and trying to figure out how he would be a parent if the worst happens one day.

Overall, a great piece with a somewhat unsatisfying ending.

I liked how he never told us how the world got destroyed. Like it really didn’t matter because it couldn’t be fixed now anyway.

Made me think about metaphysical cannibals.

Made me look at birds differently.
