A story about "Incognito" — 6 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie was a running-from-the-cops type of movie with some artsy overtones.

And while it wasn’t a romantic film, there was a “love” story—although somewhat of a dysfunctional one.

I know this wasn’t the point of the movie, but I keep thinking that if that was the way your parents met, you’d have like the best story ever to tell your kids.

WORTH CONSUMING!

A lot of this movie’s criticism is that it is “slow” and not very “gory.” But horror movies don’t have to be fast-paced and mind-numbingly gruesome to be good. Perhaps it’s just our collective loss of our attention spans…

The suspense was very-well built. The sounds effects were great, and I loved how sometimes the camera was from the perspective of the killer but not always, so it gave a kind of off-kilter feeling over all.

I’m a little curious about the remake, but it probably did away with all the things that made this movie interesting.

A story about "The Lottery: And Other Stories" — 7 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Jackson is one of my all time favorite authors.

She is so good at evoking a creepy feeling, so good at making ordinary things utterly disturbing.

One of the things that make her stories so creepy is that we’ve all met people like the people in her stories. Or we’ve been in situations where we weren’t sure if we were interpreting the other person’s actions/motives correctly.

There are 26 stories in the collection. Of them, Seven Types of Ambiguity, is hands down one of the most haunting short stories out there. Not as dramatic as The Lottery but just as powerful.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This album isn’t usually a big favorite with fans, but I have always liked it a lot. When I’m in a particular mood-sort of melancholy and reflective-I can put this on and it hits the spot like it’s the musical version of comfort food.

A story about "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" — 7 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen scenes from this movie but I never sat down an watched it from beginning to end until last night.

So, it is cheesy and campy, but it’s also one of the most fun vampire movies ever.

And it had an impact on the horror genre—even if you can’t really call this movie horror. After this movie you started seeing stronger female roles where before women always ran up the stairs and usually managed to twist their ankles in the process…

A story about "Juno" — 7 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve been thinking about these sytlized, “hip” movies about loveable/quirky characters. I think the one thing that Juno does that is a little different (and is to its credit) is that the characters end up not being who you think they are initially. You can’t say too much without spoilers, but if you’ve seen it and you think about I think you’ll understand what I mean.

Still, it was hard to get past the, “no one in real life would talk like that” moments.

A story about "Zombie Strippers (Unrated Special Edition)" — 7 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

As long as you remember this is a B-movie about strippers turned zombies, you’ll probably enjoy it.

The “philosophical” dialogue was a bit unexpected, but it fit right in with the campy feel.

A bit of social commentary here too about control between the sexes and competition between women.

A story about "Inglourious Basterds [Theatrical Release]" — 7 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A lot has been said already. I’d just add that it’s essential to watch this in a movie theater. I don’t want to give anything away, but I don’t think the effect of what happens at the end would be quite the same if viewed at home on a couch.

Creative songs. Like the one titled The Flintstones where the musician imagines how Fred might have ended up at the end of the show.

Nice to listen to something that did seem a bit different than other stuff that’s out there.

The best song was Babies and Vaseline. I laughed out loud on that one. Still not sure what is endearing about babies and vaseline, but I agreed with everything else he listed in the song.

I only wish there had been more episodes.

That, and maybe that the meth-head biker friend had been in more episodes.
