I only recommend this to true die-hard Charles DeLint fans as it is a children’s book. It does however give his readers some past insight into a couple of characters he writes about in one of his earlier books/stories “The Seven Wild Sister’s.” Also because I AM a die-hard fan, I would have to say that it is worth reading.
I started reading this book during a time of great turmoil in my life and it helped me gain a better perspective of my life and myself. When I begin to feel overwhelmed with Life’s daily stresses I open this book to a random page and just start reading, so far I have always found just what I needed at that moment. This is a book that can be consumed over a lifetime. In fact, I will continue to consume this book for many years to come.
I couldn’t put this book down until I was finished with it.
This is a book that would never be sold in today’s market because of the really cool and potentially dangerous things it shows children how to make step by step, like one of my favorites, the Roller Skate Scooter. It is basicly two 2×4’s attached to old fashioned metal roller skates with no way to steer and the picture shows one boy sitting down on it while the other pushes him down the hill. Today’s equivilence would be street luging. :) I love this book!
This is more for knitters than crocheters as the knitting designs way outnumber the crochet designs, but would be great for the knitter who wanted to try their hand at crochet.
I made my first pair of lace curtains from this book just by repeating one of the patterns until it fit perfectly in my kitchen window. It was for my first apartment and I remember hanging it up with ribbon and thumb tacks. It looked really cute, maybe I will do that again. This time I will use a tension rod instead of thumb tacks, but I think I will still loop the ribbon through it to hang from the rod.
The Crochet designs were great, I just wish there were more of them.
This has awesome ideas to make props/costumes for some really embarassing pictures that can be shown to friends and family later in life.
Again it is a matter of taste and I just think there are better beginner books out there. In fact, I own this book, but I have never created a pattern from it because I was always able to find something more interesting in another book.
