Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs — 1 day ago

This was a cute animated film with an semi-original storyline of boy meets girl via outrageous experimental invention, but other than the invention there was really nothing too memorable about it. It is a fun children’s film. My son especially liked the ice cream scene, but then again what child doesn’t like to see a whole screen full of colorful ice cream, cake, or candy?

The Botany of Desire — 3 days ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I chose to watch this due to the misleading description. It clearly states that Mr. Pollan will explain the natural history of four common plants and describe how these plants deftly manipulate human desires. While he does explain some of the history of these plants which I found enjoyable, he did not enter into any coherent discussion on how any of these plants deftly (quickly and skillfully) manipulate human desire, unless you count the less than two minute scientific explanation of how cannabis effects the human brain. Huh, no surprise there, I think he may have smoked too much of the stuff during the making of this 2 hour propaganda film. While I am all about saving the earth and stopping GMOs in my food, I do not see how they would have anything to do with the true botany of desire. This was just another ploy to trick people into watching a very biased and agenda filled film. This film (and probably the book too) has absolutely nothing to do with how plants manipulate human desire, however there was some manipulation going on, it just wasn’t coming from the plants. Don’t waste your time.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was not the movie I was expecting, but it immediately caught me in it’s grip and didn’t let go throughout the whole movie. It was very realistic and for that reason I would never watch it again nor suggest anyone else to watch it. I am well aware of how low the human race can stoop to treat their fellow man and I don’t like to be reminded of it in such detail. The only other movie that I have seen that is worse than this for the lowness of man is Slumdog Millionaire. Needless to say this is not the type of movie I find enjoyable, however it was well made and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It is worth consuming only to understand our human history and to not repeat it.

But I'm a Cheerleader — 3 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was hilarious and campy. Not to be taken seriously at all.

Here is the movie description from Amazon in case you think you might want to check it out:

This candy-box colored comedy of sexual discovery chronicles the life of Megan (Natasha Lyonne) a typical teenager coming of age in anything but a typical fashion. Megan’s super normal suburban existence is filled with friends pom-poms and rah-rah enthusiasm until her straight-laced parents (Mink Stole and Bud Cort) suspect that their “little poodle” may in fact be showing deviant tendencies. In a complete panic Megan’s parents elicit the help of her friends and the guidance of a rehabilitation camp to mount an all-out intervention. Mike (an out-of-drag RuPaul Charles) a True Directions counselor leads the intervention and before Megan can pack her pom-poms she is whisked off to learn how to be a perfect woman.True Directions is run under the strict all-seeing eyes of the sadistic Mary (Cathy Moriarty). Megan dutifully gets with the deprogramming so she can quickly return to her life of boyfriends football games and her absolute favorite activity – cheerleading. Everything seems perfect but the fun begins when her hormones start to rage and her friends and family wonder where she’ll find love!

A story about "The Human Edge" — 3 weeks ago

So far this is a great read. I am only able to read a little at a time so this book is perfect since it is a compilation of short stories by the author. All having to do with the “Human Edge” in some way. So far it has been really uplifting and encouraging, and has kinda restored my faith in mankind and our ability to survive, cope and adapt.

I Could Never Be Your Woman — 3 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was one of those fluffy uplifting chick flicks that makes you feel good. Not to say that it doesn’t has some major flaws like the entire casting of people who could never ever pass for teenagers in high school. Or the fact that it took Michelle Pfeiffer the entire movie to realize that her secretary (do they even call them that anymore) was the one cock blocking her through the whole movie. I mean it’s not like she didn’t make it painfully obvious from the beginning of the movie. Anyway it was actually easy to overlook these and other flaws and really enjoy this movie, mostly due to the chemistry between Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd, but also because Paul really played his character well. He made me wish that I was his cougar. ;-) Now that’s good acting.

WORTH CONSUMING!

“Anything less than mad, passionate, extraordinary love is a waste of time. There are too many mediocre things in life to deal with and love shouldn’t be one of them.”

One of the best lines from a movie! and so true.

I loved this movie even if it was a bit eccentric at times.

Ding-Dong Merry Maids of the Gay Way — 4 weeks ago

This was soooo not what I expected. Basically it is a stag film. For those of you who might not know what that is, this is a 1954 nudie film where the only thing the girls do is perform a strip tease act, one after another. I didn’t watch the whole thing exactly. Mostly I just saw the first few acts and didn’t see much originality from one girl to the next, so I watched the rest of the movie in fast forward and slowed down only if the routine changed a bit. It is worth the watch if only to see how the female form has changed since then and for the historical aspect of it. Strip acts sure have come a long way from this.
