A story about "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister: A Novel" — 4 years ago

Another really interesting book, he’s onto a great idea of taking fairy tales and turning them into real stories (especially because I’m quite interested in the origin of the stories that have originally become our fairy tales, they have all been much altered from their original form). It was less complex than wicked, but had a much more gritty and ugly reality as he set it in a defitite time and place in our own history (the history of the Dutch tulip craze is also interesting – try ‘the tulip, the story of the flower than has made men mad’)

A story about "Down and Out in Paris and London" — 4 years ago

A great read, though the ‘etc etc’ style that kept popping up was a bit annoying.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I don’t exactly know why I bought this, the opening paragraphs seemed funny and I needed a light book for a long bus ride. It has some funny moments, but can anyone so superficial and egotistical be really THAT into yoga as a philosophy? A lot of name dropping mostly – go figure.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Well, it’s a pity that not ticking the ‘worth consuming’ box means it’s automatically NOT worth it. This book is ok, but more along the lines of a holiday or train ride read. A few funny observations, but don’t expect an intellectual masterpiece brimming with witty ironic prose…

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s worth consuming, as it’s a classic, but I can say I was a huge fan of this book, I found it the story telling a bit scattered.

A story about "Dude, Where's My Country?" — 4 years ago

I like Michael Moore, I really do! But I found this book to be too full of literary histronics, too much shouting!!! too much preaching to the converted. Stupid White Men was better, and I admire what he does, but heavy sarcasm is better left to the likes of Oscar Wilde.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve been a Bryson fan for a long time now, and despite his admission of not being very aware of a lot of the genre of work he writes about, you’d never know it!

WORTH CONSUMING!

It took me a long time to get through it, but its a really interesting double timeline story about explorations in the Amazon basin. Lots of really interesting indigenous history and ethnobotanical research.
