You’d think that a vampire story featuring the Marquis de Sade as a lead character would feature, well, sex and violence.
Contrary to the modern vampire novel tradition, and your expectations, this book features neither. Tame enough for your grandmother. Filled with less sex or violence than prime-time-tv or your local newspaper.
Sure, some people die. And some sex is had. But always off-page and out of view of the narrator. Maybe the author thought this was some sort of virtue, but fans of the modern “vampire novel” genre are sure to be disappointed. There are cheaper books that can be bought as fishwrap or firestarter. Don’t buy this one.
