A story about "American Gods: A Novel" — 1 year ago

I would be lying if I said I didn’t force myself to finish this book. I found the first half of the book to be pretty boring. There is something about the main character, Shadow, that kind of makes him dull. He just seems so neutral about everything that happens around him or to him that’s it’s hard to find him interesting. It’s also difficult not questioning how every single god, mythical creature, monster or idol suddenly became literal. Of course, there’s also the fact all of these gods have contrasting backgrounds and views.

On the other hand, the second half of the book was pretty good. As someone mentioned below, it all really did come together (except the god question) and I did enjoy it. I believed that Laura, one of the side characters, was more interesting and had a little more depth than the main character.

Overall, I would say I recommend it based on the second half of the book. However, the whole book wasn’t that great.

Everything except the ending — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

There are some very kid-ish/lame aspects to the series (like the ending) but overall I really liked it.

A review of "Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1)" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

It’s simple: this book is BS. When I saw how everyone was freaking out about this book, I was like, “I have to read it.” Everyone was gah-gah over it and even the trailer looked interesting.

One chapter in and I was thought, “ok, only the first chapter…it’ll get better…” NOPE! After finishing the second chapter I realized, “Holy monkeys, this book is crap!”

All it’s about is this perfect girl who is obsessed with this perfect guy who in return is obsessed with her. How charming? I swear I was gonna rip the book when she spent over a page talking about how she looked up vampires online and all the pop ups she deleted!! I was sick of being in her head when she talked about EVERY little thing she did.

Honestly, I’ve read better fan fictions than this book and they’re usually by people who are a third of the author’s age. This book sounds like she just wanted to write about her teenage love fantasy.

This book is simple: I went to school. I had to do this lousy problem. This place sucks. HOLYCOW, I checked out this hot vampire at lunch! OMG, he’s checking me out too!!

Take your life, add a few vampires, some gloomy weather and lame sarcasm and you’ve just made yourself Twilight.
