So sweet — 2 years ago
I wasn’t sure what to expect as had quite mixed reviews from other people, but I really enjoyed this. Really funny and sweet. Paul Rudd does a great Robert DeNiro impression… who knew?

I felt as though the way he has set it out takes away from the story itself. The plot was amazing and at times when I was reading about Navidson in the tunnels, I would get genuinely scared. But then the text would take over and I would have to turn the book around to read it and it all felt a bit unnecessary and over the top.
This was a bit on the long side, and as the titles kept flashing up “one week later”, “four years later”, “one day later”, etc, I just kept thinking, ‘come on, get on with it!’ Having said that, I really did enjoy this film. I thought it was really interesting, and the way they told the story through the characters involved was a great way to show how the lack of resolution became, for some, an obsession. I do think it is worth seeing, but the length might become a problem once it is on DVD – if a movie is over 1 1/2 hours and I’m watching it in bed I tend to fall asleep!
This was quite a fun and enjoyable movie, and I thought it was a lot better than the reviewers did, but it was no where near as good as the previous two. There were so many cheesy moments, and Tobey Maguire was really annoying, ambling about with his dopey smile on his face. And the sequence where he becomes evil Peter was really cringesome – what was with the terrible dancing? And the emo fringe? I also wasn’t really quite sure what the black stuff was – where did it come from? Why did it come to earth? Was it aiming for Peter or was that just coincidence? It just didn’t always make a huge amount of sense.
This was crap. It feels like it should have been good – the premise was quite fun. But instead it felt really forced and despite the pounding “action music” it never really lived up to its promise. Really disappointing
I mean, even if you ignore the fact that the storyline is a complete load of old bollocks, this was still schmaltzy crap. Plus, the son’s name is Shepherd Farmer. WTF? Shite. Miss it.
I was reading this on and off for a while, and finding it incredibly difficult to get through. The mockni is very difficult to read at first, and it was only once I was able to sit down and read it for extended periods at a time (as opposed to 15 minutes here and there) that I really started to enjoy it. Well worth persevering with and both frightening and sad and brilliant!
But once they bring all the “science” in, it kind of loses its way. Also, “Doug” does some shocking driving… I mean, I know he’s trying to save a ferryload of people, but still, I’m sure that driving in the present while watching the road in the past is not a good idea…
Brilliantly acted. I have to say, I never understood the mass hysteria around the death of Princess Diana, and Helen Mirren’s portrayal of the Queen struggling to deal with the public’s reaction is fantastic.
I really enjoyed this book – I love Sarah Waters’ style of writing, and the characters she creates. I thought each of the three time periods was great, but I have to say I was quite disappointed when the 1947 chapter ended – I wanted to know what happened next!!!
