A story about "American Gods: A Novel" — 4 years ago
for some reason i got it in my head that i was going to find this book at the used bookstore. finally, i did. i hope it’s as good as i want it to be!
I'm currently reading 5 books, listening to 0 albums, watching 3 movies, eating and drinking 0 food items, and consuming 1 other thing.
for some reason i got it in my head that i was going to find this book at the used bookstore. finally, i did. i hope it’s as good as i want it to be!
this book was a gift from peth. i just read about half of it on my lunch break, and it is extremely pleasing to this fan of all things alaskan! thanks, pethie!
despite his blatant rip-offs of Tolkien, i enjoyed reading this book. too bad the reviews for the new one are awful :(
this movie was pretty fun, but, yeah. not at all what i was expecting it to be. i was maybe expecting more dancing? there was that one tiny bit at the beginning where the guy did a little hustle right before he killed someone with an axe, but that was it. despite the lack of hustle, i liked the characters, especially the landlady, and those bad guys who killed with music.
it wasn’t really all that great. watched the first two episodes, and sent it back to netflix. not very exciting. too vague to pull me in.
i never even finished watching it. got kind of bored. oh well.
i’ve consumed this many, many times. seu jorge is just fantastic and makes me smile.
i’m looking forward to being past the point that they got up to in the movie (which, so far, i have to say i enjoyed much more than the books).
i realize it’s meant to be funny that he defines words nonstop, but if i had read these as a kid, i probably would have been pissed and insulted and stopped reading them out of spite. it’s the most annoying, and condescending literary device ever used.
do they get better after this?
i agree with one of the other posters who said that the author’s condescending tone (excessively defining words that really don’t need defining, even for a young person) is a little annoying. i hope he lays off it in later books.
although i enjoyed all the bell-ringing information, i thought the story overall was pretty boring. too bad about that!
