A story about "Naked Pictures of Famous People"

Naked Pictures of Famous People

by Jon Stewart

I was so disappointed by this. I have been a Jon Stewart fan for as long as I can remember. This book was just disappointing. A collection of brief “essays” that are mostly written from the POV of various historical and cultural characters (i.e. an article written by Martha Stewart for her magazine, or the transcript of an interview with Hitler on Larry King). The sad thing was that not only were these not funny, some were just boring or stupid. I was VERY disappointed here.

A story about "2001 Maniacs"

2001 Maniacs

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. I LOVE cult movies, but this is a remake which usually leaves me cold. However, this one was really great. Now, don’t get me wrong – it is not a GOOD movie, but I think Herschell would be proud of this remake (and if you don’t know who Herschell is, you probably shouldn’t be watching this movie). The movie was lighthearted, with silly acting, but a surprisingly competent script and directing. This movie didn’t take itself seriously, which I feel is a major component to its success. And the gore was really great. “Hostile” has nothing on this one.

The hillbilly cannibals are all of a sudden hillbilly cannibals on motorbikes. And NO ONE dies until the last 20 minutes. Need I say more?

The author goes on a wild goose chase across the world trying to track down a snuff film. It reads more like a bad made-for-TV movie. The writing is amateurish. I spent the majority of this book rolling my eyes.

Easy to digest bits.

Nothing stood out. Watched it on cable; glad I didn’t waste money on this in the theatre. It ran in syndication, originally produced between 1987-1990 – three seasons. It had nothing to do with the hockey-mask movie series. “Lewis Vendredi made a deal with the devil to sell cursed antiques. But he broke the pact, and it cost him his soul. His niece Micki, and her cousin Ryan have inherited the store, and with it, the curse. Now they must get everything back… and the real terror begins.”

Often considered one of the most disturbing films of all time. Was once seized by the feds on the suspicion that it was a snuff film. The human death isn’t real, but the animal death is, so watch out. The film itself isn’t great, but it is infamous for it’s violence – and rightfully so.

It is spectacle at its finest; the perfect example of post-modernism. It is fun, flashy, sexy, and just damned wonderful.

A story about "The Velvet Underground"

The Velvet Underground

by Michael Leigh

The book that gave the band their name. This was written in the 1960s and is supposed to be a scathing expose on swingers. It is supposed to condemn the lifestyle, but instead is just amusing for the way that the author is almost scared of the lifestyle. And despite his disgust for the lifestyle, it still comes off as sexy.

A story about "The Walking Dead Volume 1: Days Gone Bye"

I love zombies but this is more of a touchy-feely zombie book that focuses on the stories of the humans who are surviving in a zombie-infested world. Call me crass, but I prefer to focus on the bloodshed. Or at least on human characters that aren’t so sappy
