A story about "The Confessions of Max Tivoli" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a good story written in the sort of flowery prose that I would normally detest but set in a time where it was just right. We follow Max Tivoli as he follows his love in a life that, too all outward observers, he’s living in reverse. Not an “OHMYGOSH GO OUT AND BUY THIS NOW!” book. If you can fit it into your reading schedule, it’s worth a serious look.

A story about "Bloody Mary (Jack Daniels Mysteries (Paperback))" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Petty as it may be, I loved the thin refs to Barry Eisler and one of the characters in his Rain series.

A story about "Worst Fears Realized" — 2 years ago

The Stone Barrington stories tend to be entertaining reads but not “must not misses.” Definitely worth the time if you have a few hours as that’s all it takes to read one of them.

Can't beat this series for sustained readability...... — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The very talented and super-hot Mr. Eisler has released the latest book in his Rain series on the 22nd of this month and waiting another year to see this character is incomprehensible. Imagine the horror at finding that it’s actually two years as his next outing is a stand-alone! Can’t wait to see what else he has for us.

Back to Rain, I believe this is the sixth book in a series that starts off strong and only gets better. At the start, we have a man who is suspicious of everyone gradually learning to trust. We follow Rain, a half Japanese, half American, assassin through security checks that could bog down the narrative if they didn’t read like action. We watch Rain set up the target and take him down and somehow remain a likeable force to the reading audience – a remarkable character who could, if taken another way, really jar readers.

In the latest outing, Rain finds that his closest and only friend, the bro at his back, the excellently crafted Dox, (sigh) has been taken hostage by an old enemy out to use Rain for what he can and then even the score. Rain has to figure out how to get his friend out alive and stay alive himself in the process – as well as what he really wants from life. He also has to face down another old demon of the past that those who like her may appreciate.

The book is one that you simply won’t want to put down…..and it has something for everyone. Even if you find that you’re not loving the series as much as I do, there’s the picture of the very hot Mr. Eisler on the back of the book over which to moon.

A GREAT way to spend an afternoon.

A story about "Shakespeare's Counselor (The Third Lily Bard Mystery)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I notice this is marked the third Lily Bard. I actually think it’s the fifth (and last written). It was a good story. These books are great literature but they’re nice entertaining reads that take a few hours and the final installment, in my opinion, was the best. Well plotted. Nice twists and a few fakeouts. Worth the time.

First book in a series..... — 2 years ago

For the first book in a series, this was a really good read. Stone is adorable – hottie or box full of puppies, whatever you prefer – and the story was good with a nice twist at the end. Looking forward to reading more of this series.

A story about "Malpractice in Maggody: An Arly Hanks Mystery (Arly Hanks Mysteries (Paperback))" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a great read. There’s a hitch at the end that could either bode well or be disaster for the series and the next book. Can Joan Hess pull it off? I’m on the edge of my seat to see.

A story about "Thirteen Ghosts" — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Saw this in the theatre when I was eight months pregnant. Lots of loud noises so there was lots of jumping going on inside of me. Wonder if this is why my child always gravitates to the horror movies.

Still, despite the loud noises, just as poorly plotted and acted as it was before. All about the shock factor which is probably a positive for the horror genre but a negative for me as a viewer.

Liked the first in the series but.... — 2 years ago

this one was better. Now that we know the character and what she can do, Harris was able to focus on a more diverse storyline and character development. The story was interesting and the ending, though not tough to see coming, was a surprise in the way it was executed.

A story about "Every Girl Should Be Married (1948)" — 2 years ago

I don’t really consider myself a feminist but yeesh. Compared to the Annabelle character in this movie I am the Supreme Tyranical Feminist. Seriously, lines like “I haven’t done anything that isn’t legitimate for a girl” and the married at all costs storyline. I know, movies are good fun, right? And it is good fun. Cary Grant – can you beat that? Still.
