While the author seems to be a very knowledgeable historian, the novel is much too long and detailed to be enjoyable for the reader.  Had it been cut down by at least 300 pages, it may have been saved for me.  Historical fiction needs to have sufficient facts, yes, but not so many that it takes away from the narrative.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
