Some useful tips for feeding you kiddies. What I got out of it (for my 1yr old) is basically, relax, offer healthy food (sometimes over and over and over), and when they are done, they’re done. A lot of common sense but there was some stuff I didn’t know.

This is an excellent book. It is the story of an abused wife (Paula Spencer) told all from her perspective. Heartbreaking and infuriating. I highly recommend this book.

Paint It Black: A Novel

I sort of liked this book. I found it dragged a bit near the end – editing could have chopped some and the story would still be powerful. I liked the story itself and the character growth and development. It’s a bit of a depressing book and not one to read if you are depressed. I liked her book “White Oleander” much more than this one. One thing I loved about this book was the poetical quality of the writing. The prose is steeped in poetry which added a unique dimension to the writing.

Wow!
Spectacular book. Quick and easy to read. Disturbing and yet hopeful.
This book makes me grateful for all I have – water, food, family, nature, memories, dreams for the future etc. It’s a book that has haunted me since I began reading it and I suspect it will stay with me for quite awhile.

Great collection of short stories and memoirs. I really liked the story “Year of the Monkey” by Fan Wu and “Every Move you Make” by David Malouf. The memoir “Twins” by Jeremy Seabrook also stuck with me. The photo essay/memoir by Graham Smith about his father made me cry.

The dialogue killed it. Also, making Noah an Evangelical killed it also. I probably would have liked this when I was in Gr. 9 – but not now.

I’d seen bits and pieces of this on TV in the past but didn’t know what I was watching and never watched it from beginning to end. It was quirky enough to hold my interest and being a cubicle drone it was easy to relate. It was a bit weird in places and I didn’t “get” all of it – but I’d watch it again.

Good basic information on nutrition and the health benefits of a variety of fruits, vegies, whole grains, proteins and anti-oxidant rich foods such as wine, chocolate, tea etc. This book also includes a number of recipes – some more practical than others. I tried the fish chowder and it turned out fine (a little bland for my liking but still fine).
