A review of "Son of a Witch: A Novel" — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

“Son of a Witch” just really didn’t live up to my expectations. I’ve always enjoyed Gregory Maguire’s books before, but this one just didn’t do it for me. Multiple passages I found myself re-reading just to understand. It was as if this was the sequel for the sake of having another book. Much was not resolved, and I really don’t feel like I got anywhere by reading it. This is the sort of book that you forget easily. I’ve marked it “not worth consuming”.

Palahniuk — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It certainly wasn’t my favorite of Chuck Palahniuk’s books, and I was slightly dissapointed, simply because it had been so hyped to me. Still, it’s worth reading, if only to know what all of the hype is about.

I haven’t seen the movie, though I still want to. Perhaps I missed out on this book somehow.

So, overall, this wasn’t the greatest, but it wasn’t the worst. There were some great lines, and a few thought-provoking segments; however, I also felt that most of the characters (especially Marla) didn’t have time to fully develope. I give it a 3/5.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I enjoyed this book, and more than that, I feel like I learned some history from it. This historical novel had more footnotes and endnotes than I’ve seen for a long time. I was face paced though, and enjoyable.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

One of my friends really, really liked this movie, but I didn’t. A lot of the book is cut out and so character development is at an exceedingly lower level. There was quite a bit more nudity and sex in it shown than what I thought there would be, so that surprised me a bit. I read the book prior to seeing the movie, and it disappointed me too when my favorite scene was cut out. I say, read the book. It was really good, and while this movie wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever seen, it disappointed me. They could have done it so much better.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s the ultimate teenage classic from the 80’s! I understand now why too. Everyone can relate themselves or someone that they know to one of the characters, and it had some “catch-phrase material” that I didn’t even realize was from this movie. I liked it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a wonderful movie, and definitely worth the wait for it to come to my city. Yes, it was extremely violent at times (as you may hear in other reviews), but the violence was imperative to the storyline, as well as to the overall message and feel of the movie. It’s about the beauty and dirt of the world, and that is what it showed. I’m buying this when it comes out on DVD, and I’m making as many of my friends as I can watch it. It was a really lovely piece, and it made you stop to think at the end. Worth it all the way.

A story about "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Penguin Classics)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Well, I had to read this for a class. I think that there are enough of today’s pop-culture references to this novel to make it a worthwhile read, not to mention the value of the book itself. After reading this book for the second time, I really don’t understand all of the criticism that this book has gotten about the character Jim and the use of the “n-word”. If a book came out today with the same content, it would obviously be objectionable; however, throughout the novel, Jim seems to be the only character with his head straight on his shoulders the whole time. If anything, it is a way of contrasting what people think and the way things are.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m a big fan of FLB, and I’ve read this particular book of her’s more times than I can really remember. As evident in this book, she is a wonderful writer and storyteller.
