A story about "Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion (Collins Business Essentials)" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book came highly recommended to me from multiple sources.

The first three chapters were very interesting and are covered in sticky notes, underlines, and highlights. It’s not that the book shared anything particularly new, but it presented it in an organized fashion that directly related to many of my current business endeavors. If you have any project that involves selling/marketing – whether writing web copy or attending networking events – there will be some good tips, or at least friendly reminders, in these first three chapters.

The rest of the book was pure pop psychology, along the lines of “Stumbling on Happiness” – well-written, with many illustrative examples, but not all that useful. I only highlighted three phrases in all of chapters 4-8. If you like pop psychology, the rest of the book is an easy and enjoyable read.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t care for Mandy Moore’s early pop stuff, but I really loved “Coverage.” This album is by far the best-yet. “Gardenia” is especially powerful.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was SO good! I am not a fan of British television or television in general, but I do love Clive Owen, so I threw these discs on my NetFlix queue.

The love scenes were a little hard to watch, but otherwise, this was truly sumptuous — it fully captivated my attention for hours.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I love Ayn Rand. “Atlas Shrugged” is easily, to me, the greatest book ever written.

That said, this movie was disappointing, as, I think, any movie would be that attempted to condense over 800 dense pages into a two-hour film. The speed at which character development and history were glossed over was blinding.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Definitely worth consuming … but Atlas Shrugged is SO much better.

This book is not on Amazon yet, but you can purchase it (only $2 for a PDF) at: http://www.lulu.com/content/704697

Misandry is a huge topic of interest for me and I’m eager to read this book.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This is NOT my type of movie at all (I only rented it to complete “Movies Robert Sean Leonard Is In” on Lists of Bests), but my expectations were so low, I actually didn’t mind it. In fact, I may have even enjoyed the part where they save Memo.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is truly the most frightening movie you will ever see in your lifetime.

A review of "Death of a President" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was MUCH better than I expected. I am not exactly “pro-Bush” at the moment but at the same time I do not relate to most anti-Bush zealots. I expected this film to be 90 minutes of Bush-bashing but was pleasantly surprised to find a healthy balance of criticism while treating his hypothetical assassination compassionately.

I disagree that it’s too controversial to depict the assassination of a sitting president. At least it is clearly a fictional film and not fiction-purporting-to-be-truth ala Michael Moore.

A review of "From Hell (Widescreen Edition)" — 5 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

If you like period pieces and are at all interested in Jack the Ripper, you will definitely enjoy this film. There was a bit of gore but it was fairly tame overall, despite the suggestion on the NetFlix DVD sleeve that it is “not for the faint of heart.” The “love story” between Depp/Graham was underdeveloped at best. Cinematography was fantastic and Depp was, as always, brilliant. Still, I want my two hours and one minute back.
