The first part is great, very intense and dramatic. The second part I could hardly wait to get it over with!
Regardless, Smilla is an awesome character and worth reading just to get to know her. To make things easier… you just might want to watch the movie instead. I think it’s a bit better, really!
Boring, boring, boring and boring. While sometimes boring books can have a great moral behind them, or a unique style of writing… this is boring all around. Even the revelation at the ending was like ”...THAT is the climax?”
I rented this from the library on a whim, and today we took it back. As my husband returned from putting it in the dropbox, I said to him “that was one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.”
Well, that’s not entirely true coz I’ve read some pretty good books this year, but for the genre, it is!
It’s easy to understand with excellent drawings depicting the flowers, and with interesting background on each plant, including uses, legends, and “the language” of flowers. I wish I owned this book!
