This show is so wonderfully meta that not only does it feature someone actually jumping a shark, but that someone—oh, you just have to see it for yourself.
Jamaica is a sweet, Mexican drink made from hibiscus blossoms. As an American, I find it to be similar to fruit punch—tasty and refreshing. I never had it before my honeymoon in Mexico, but now that I’m back in San Diego, I’ve discovered that it’s easy to find at some of the more authentic taco shops here.
Rompope is a Mexican liquor that tastes very similar to eggnog, only without the spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. It’s a bit like drinking alcoholic custard. If you like eggnog, chances are you’ll like rompope.
In Mexico, Coca-Cola sells a sparkling soft drink called Lift that tastes like red delicious apple. Why don’t they offer it in the States? Maybe they think Martinelli’s already has the market cornered.
In Mexico, Fresca is not a diet drink. In fact, like Coca-Cola, it’s sweetened with good ol’ cane sugar. All the better as far as I’m concerned.
On a recent visit to Seattle, I went with some friends to a restaurant in University Village (the name escapes me)(Atlas Foods), and one of the house specialties was this espresso martini: chilled espresso, Kahlua, and vodka.
It’s exactly what you would expect: a martini that tastes like cold coffee. So I must say I don’t think much of it other than as a novelty.
It does have the interesting quality of getting you buzzed as well as… getting you buzzed.
It’s like drinking a carbonated vitamin pill—not just in nutrient content but in flavor.
If you’re looking for a diet energy drink, this might do in a pinch, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. Personally, I’m going to stick with Enviga for now. (Right now Monster’s easier to find in stores, though.)
This book was my introduction to the Lonely Planet guides. What struck me right away, which I did not know before, is that they seem to be written for a British audience. This requires a little mental translation when looking up certain phrases—for example, the phrase “I’m pissed” is not to be used when you’re angry or irritated, but rather when you’re falling-down drunk (actually, I doubt that a tourist should be advertising either situation!).
This last, lost film of Ed Wood makes his previous efforts look like Lord of the Rings by comparison. Ever wondered what an Ed Wood softcore-porn flick would be like? Here’s your answer. And you’ll be sorry you ever asked the question.
To the best of my recollection, this was released on video years ago by Something Weird and included an introduction with Rudolph Grey, author of Nightmare of Ecstasy: The Life and Art of Edward D. Wood, Jr. (the basis of the movie Ed Wood). Unfortunately for Ed Wood completists, it appears to be out of print now.
