A review of "I, Rhoda Manning, Go Hunting with My Daddy: And Other Stories" — 3 years ago
Really good!
What I loved about these stories: first of all, the idea of a book of short stories all concerning related people – I love it. Less heavy than a novel, but more involved than short stories that are not connected.
I liked the way that the author was able to make every character sympathetic, even the crazy racist grandfather. I appreciate authors that can make me feel for characters that I might otherwise really dislike or at least judge harshly.
It sort of made me want to move to Arkansas. I miss all those “salt of the earth” folks I grew up around in the Midwest.
