A story about "Nineteen Minutes: A novel" — 2 years ago
this book got high school all wrong.
I'm currently reading 3 books, listening to 2 albums, watching 0 movies, eating and drinking 1 food item, and consuming 5 other things.
this book got high school all wrong.
I went into this movie expecting to be disgusted. I’ve heard so many reviews where people claim the children are being “brainwashed” and forced into the strong beliefs. I come from a church where no one speaks in tongues EVER so the scene with the kids ALL convulsing and screaming freaked me out at first. However, as the movie progressed I realized that there was nothing really terrible about the camps or what the woman in charge was doing. I think it is great and showing the kids to remain strong in their faith. I also thoughy it was very powerful that the kids were not ashamed of their faith in any way. You don’t usually look at children as christian leaders, but watching this film showed me that kids can be just as influential as adults and many times people overlook the intelligence and different perspectives kids have about life.
I didn’t like this movie very much at all. The special effects/ computer parts were really fake-looking and distracting, and it was hard for me to remain focused the whole movie. To me, the most intense part was the music they added, the heavy bass and dissonance were more frightful than the scenes taking place. Also, I did not find the boy to be a very good actor and his angry face was more of an ugly spoiled brat face. The nanny was the most frightening character in the whole story, the way she kept acting authorative over everyone, I think she outshined the boy and did more damage than he did. =\
Definitely did not compare to the book (but really what movie does?), I expected it to be far more entertaining than it was, but it was definitely worth watching… just to see how the movie would portray some aspects of the book, or if it would show them at all. However, the movie never really took ahold of all of my attention.
My favorite scene, which lasts about two minutes, is when Augusten has to get his stomach pumped at the hospital. I thought it was very gripping and the most emotionally captivating happening in the whole movie(!).
This show was amazing and never should have been taken off the air. =(
Chocolate is the yummiest thing in the world.
