Why I want to consume "Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" — 3 years ago

Programmers everywhere are talking about the Getting Things Done book.

When you are a computer programmer, you have to constantly produce, virtually always have deadlines, and often have more than one thing competing for your attention.

You have:
  1. your current project(s)
  2. occasional rush jobs
  3. constant need to find, study, learn, and practice with: new software/class libraries, new object-oriented frameworks, new programming languages, new file and document formats

I am just like other programmers and everyone else. I want to learn about Getting Things Done too!

A story about the last time I consumed "Smirnoff Ice" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It tasted very sweet, like lemonade and something alcoholic tasting in it.

I let some of it get a little warm, and then it did not taste good – just like something that had too much sugar and alcohol in it.

Save it for really hot days when you will drink it fast, while it is really cold.

WORTH CONSUMING!

She is great and this album is excellent.

I bought it several years ago and really enjoy it. Most of the traffics are not just very good but terrific.

Her voice and music do not sound “just like” other female rockers and they are very good; uniquely her own, seems like.

Why I recommend "Sangria Zinfandel" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It is pretty good, actually.

It is very fruity tasting. Not sure how much of it is actually wine. It tastes very sweet and the ingredients list a lot of things – water, high fructose corn syrup, and added carbon dioxide – that you normally would not find in wine.

The label on the front says “serve well chilled”. I would take that advice to heart. I bought some chilled and had it on ice. That way it tasted pretty good.

When the ice melted and the bottle had lost a slight bit of it chill, it did not taste so great at all.

The number of calories is pretty high (150 calories per 8 ounces). That is 225 per 12 ounces – which is well over what any soft drink has.

If you have this with a meal, I say skip dessert. Your body will not need the calories from something sugary and this as well.

A question I have about "The Zen of CSS Design: Visual Enlightenment for the Web (Voices That Matter)" — 3 years ago

Is anyone using this as a “coffee table” book at their home or including it as part of the “reading material” spread across the table in their waiting area out front at their office?

It seems like it would be a perfect choice for that.

The book is completely beautiful. The cover is a work of art and the hundreds of screenshots inside are pretty nice looking too.

The layout/style/color of the pages inside also really do justice to the subject matter as well. It is like every page is an hommage incarnate to good style.

Why I want to consume "The Zen of CSS Design: Visual Enlightenment for the Web (Voices That Matter)" — 3 years ago

I want to create my own CSS stylesheet for styling the HTML exemplar page over at the CSS Zen Garden website.

I figure this book will let me do a better job of it by stimulating me to create some especially neat looks.

The technical knowledge of how to write the CSS is one thing. But the artistic knowledge of what kind of a look to shoot for is something else entirely.

Why I want to consume "Apache Jakarta Commons: Reusable Java(TM) Components (Bruce Perens' Open Source Series)" — 3 years ago

Jakarta Commons class libraries are used in almost everything from Apache that is written in Java.

They are very useful when writing applications too!

I am a big fan of BeanUtils these days and I really like the other Commons libraries I have looked at lately too.

This book covers the Commons libraries in some detail. Decent little examples too.

Why I want to consume "Six Sigma for Dummies" — 3 years ago

I am actually reading it with an eye to finding out if the Six Sigma business statistics/processes can be applied to programming.

At CMMI Level 5, an organization is supposed be Optimizing.

It is pretty hard to do that without collecting and analyzing some statistics. You do not know what your weaknesses really are until you record and analyze them.
