A story about "Coke Blak" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I tried this a couple of times and I just could not get into it.

True, I did not try it over ice as one person suggested. But I did drink it cold.

It does not seem to wake me up as much as coffee and it does not seem to taste as good as a soda.

Add into that blase description the fact that it has every unhealthy sweetner discovered in the past few decades, and it is not really anything to crow about.

I hear the french version actually has real sugar in it. Which, we all know is not that good for you. But it tastes better and is healthier for you than high fructose, sucralose, and asptertame.

What exactly is the target demographic for this product?

People with no tastebuds and no health agenda whatsoever?

I can see why they had to change the formula to be able to sell it at all in France.

Why I want to consume "Parallels Desktop for Mac" — 3 years ago

Using the Parallels Desktop for Mac virtualization software will allow me to run other Intel-CPU based operating systems, like Linux, on my Macintosh.

No one computer OS has a corner on the market for every good piece of software.

I am a software developer, and I find the Macintosh has a great blend of user/hacker/slacker (as in programmer, not reprobate) features.

What it lacks is a few Java IDE features that I would wish to have sometime. Nothing major, but some little things.

Using Parallels, I think I will be able to install the latest version of some Linux distribution and have that at my beck and call when I need it.

Kind of like nitro-charging my Mac with programming tools. And, I will not have to mess with Fink or Darwin Ports, or any of that stuff.

It will be a great way to get my coder-fu on.

Why I recommend "Necroscope" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

If you like vampire stories but pure fantasy does not quite do it for you, the series this book kicks off is juste for you.

The monsters are scary, venial, with rapacious appetites – and no, they are not the ones you hear about on the news. They are much worse.

They decimate populations, hobble civilizations, and arise from the pasts they were put down in – given half a chance by one of the living decades or centuries after their deaths.

Crossing their path comes Harry Keogh, the Necroscope.

Harry talks to the dead. Or rather they talk to him… and he talks back. He is the only one who can. They love him for it. But that does not mean he has an easy – or boring – life.

This is a really great novel and so are the ones that follow it in the series.

dated, so buy CSS: The Definitive Guide instead — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The CSS 2.0 standard was superceded by the CSS 2.1 standard years ago.

Even thought the differences are not huge, they do exist.

Now that Microsoft has finally released Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox is well entrenched on the web landscape, CSS 2.1 truly is the version to keep your eyes on.

The author of this book, has written another, better book since this one was published quite a few years ago.

That book, published by O’Reilly (of course) is “CSS: The Definitive Guide”. Get the latest edition of it, not this book.

I am pretty sure the author will not mind!

Why I want to consume "The Open Door" — 3 years ago

I really loved their last album. I heard a couple tracks on this that I liked. So I bought the whole album from iTunes so I could enjoy it all.

Why I want to consume "Starsky & Hutch (Widescreen Edition)" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are both hilarious in their own rights.

Having them both in one movie has got to be one extra rich comedy experience!

Why I recommend "Berries and Cream Dr. Pepper" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It is the biggest successful variant on the Coke & Pepsi standard since Cherry Coke was introduced ages ago.

It soundly trumps the recent experiments with adding lime, vanilla, and other flavors by the cola manufacturers.

A story about the last time I consumed "Traminer Riesling white wine" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I bought it to have with the chicken dinner I had last night after I bought my new iMac. I had chicken for supper again tonight, so I had the rest.

It is an intersting, slightly sweet wine.

The vineyard it comes from is in Australia. The wine tasted okay. So far, I have not heard someone complain about a wine produced in Australia.

While I was having the last of it with my dinner, I watched the 3rd and 4th episode of the Blade TV series that aired on Spike TV.

I just got word that the series hsa been cancelled.

The bottle that the wine comes in is very attractive. A tall, tihn green bottle with an “R” embossed right into the glass just below the kneck, up in front. It would probably make an attractive flower vase.

Another intersting thing about this paticular bottle, is it came stoppered with a plastic cork rather than one make of real cork. Personally, I think I actually prefer the plastic ones.

They are easier to get back in the bottle. Regular cork stoppers are very difficult to get back in, a lot of the time.

WORTH CONSUMING!

My brother gave me a gift trial subscription in early 2004 or 2005 and I have been hooked ever since.

It is way more fun than going to the video store. The website actually knows you and what you watched, in a way no corner video store person ever can.

Not just the videos you rented from Netflix, but your ratings of all the movies you have seen at the theater, on TV, and from the corner DVD (and former videotape) stores.

Of course, you don’t have to disclose any of that but it would be silly not to – the site uses this food for thought to help pick good suggestions for other DVDs you will probably enjoy consuming.

Last week, I gave my mom a gift subscription for Netflix. She has not been feeling well lately, and I am hoping watching some hilarious comedy movies will help her feel a little bit better.

I just noticed on the site that Netflix has an option that people with Blueray and DVD-HD players can enable so they can rent discs that take advantage of their player’s special high-def features.

Netflix is an all around great company and I am happy to be a customer of theirs.
