These are 10 difficult little films. I can’t believe they are only an hour long because they each took me on such an emotional rollercoaster ride I could only watch one per night. Don’t try to nail down a specific film to a particular “commandment” since I think that’s just the wrong way to look at these hard little gems.

This movie has it all: political subtext, irritatingly catchy songs, moderately convincing special effects, an antagonist with no redeeming qualities so you can just go ahead and hate her without reservation and flying monkeys. I mean, what other film gives you so MANY flying monkeys for your entertainment dollar?

This film was old even when I was a kid and it would be on TV every year in the spring as I remember it. I watched it every year on an old black and white TV so I never knew what the big deal about coming to OZ was until I happened to see it projected in a theatre. I always thought Dorothy was CRAZY to want to go back to a dirt farm when she basically could have taken over the Emerald City. I’ve seen the movie probably 100x and I keep seeing new things in it.
