Three short stories—one more depressing than the next. I had only read Simone De Beauvoir’s feminist stuff—never her fiction. Well the truth in these stories is cruel and sharp.
“Not to me! I am not the kind of mother that is lied to; not the kind of wife that is lied to. Idiotic vanity. All women think that they are different; they all think there are some things that will never happen to them; and they are all wrong.”
I used to be addicted to non-fat lattes. Now that I am more spiritually advanced, I drink non-fat chai lattes. Perhaps it is only sublimation.
Reading about colleges and universities—Fun
Visiting colleges and universities—Interesting
Talking to other parents about colleges and universities—WONK WONK SNORE WONK
Helping twinnies narrow the choices—difficult
Anticipating application process—Stressful
Paying for college—I’ll be indentured forever
How I’ll feel when they go—happy, excited, bereft
This compilation CD is fabulous. Eleven different artists and dimensions of the Samba/Bossa Nova sound—some of the classic sound and then wonderful current interpretations. One of the cuts is Ceatano Veloso’s son—it just stays with you. I love every cut. I wish I could understand the Portugeuse (and spell it)
I wish there were an in between rating—worth seeing so that I know what all the fuss is about. I didn’t really see the chemistry between them. Very beautiful visually.
I am reading this because I thought it would help me deal with impending “empty nest”-my daughters will be going to college in a year. Anyhoo, the book is fascinating but I have to say that the way that it assisted with putting the empty nest issue into perspective was to scare the crap out of me for the next phases of life after the empty nest- Sickness, aging and DEATH.
