Why I recommend "Sweeney Todd"

Sweeney Todd

by Tim Burton

I saw Sweeney Todd on Broadway and it was amazing. I think it might be impossible to replicate the feeling of having it performed on a fixed stage with only a few actors. But Tim Burton did a pretty good job in transforming it into a movie. He was able to keep the ‘gore’ factor low by using theatrically colored blood so that helped to not freak me out. Heh.

I fell in love with Johnny Depp all over again.

I think I’m addicted…

Can’t beat that!

I think I’m going to try the cab next. Mmmmmm, cheap wine!

Why I recommend "The Lovely Bones"

The Lovely Bones

by Alice Sebold

I love how the narrator is telling the story of her death. It really gives you that “fly on the wall” sort of feeling.

There was just one part toward the end that threw me off because it sort of stepped beyond believable… but I won’t spoil that here. Regardless, I still enjoyed the book thoroughly.

A review of "Cracking the GMAT with DVD, 2008 Edition (Graduate Test Prep)"

Cracking the GMAT with DVD, 2008 Edition (Graduate Test Prep)

by Princeton Review

I had already done practice tests and had followed a Barron’s prep book as well before I picked this one up. I think I actually got this book one week before the test… so I used it more for just additional research.

Well, the pointers in it are definitely good. It helps to get you to look at the problems a little differently. I also didn’t want to focus much attention to the essays because they didn’t matter to my school. So I just read up on what this book had to offer and I ended up with a 5 on the essay part with little-to-no effort!!!

The practice test was good (from the DVD) but you can only use it once. I tried to do it again and it just gave me the same questions in a different order! A bit annoying, but it wasn’t too bad because I already had done plenty of practice tests previously. Also, SOME of the questions I got on the DVD were repeats from the paper tests in the book.

If I had to do it all over again (thankfully, I don’t!) I’d read this book first and try out the practice test. Then I’d focus the rest of my time on doing official practice tests from GMAC.

Why I recommend "Running with Scissors: A Memoir"

Running with Scissors: A Memoir

by Augusten Burroughs

This book makes me feel sort of “normal”. Reading about Augusten’s childhood really made me realize that maybe my family isn’t as messed up as I thought they were!

I went into this book having already read “Dry”... so maybe that’s why I liked it. I’ve grown attached to Augusten through his books… whether they ARE a real account of his life or not. I think they’re highly entertaining.

Though, I could have done with a little less detail on the sex scenes. But it’s okay, I survived.

How "Gone with the Wind" changed my life

Gone with the Wind

by Margaret Mitchell

This is, by far, my favorite book of all time. There were some characters that I disliked, but not for a lack of knowing them. It was getting to know them that got me to disliking them. If that makes sense at all. I took my time with this book and really absorbed it all… and will always recommend it to anyone.

A review of "Dry"

Dry

by Augusten Burroughs

I got this loaded to my iPod before I set off for a vacation in the Carribean. I have to say that it wouldn’t normally be my first choice for a relaxing vacation, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s got serious content and some tragic stuff that I can just really relate to. I really felt I got to know Augusten and that’s probably why I went out and bought Running with Scissors. I’d only recommend this to readers who are in for some harsh reality… no fairy tale here.

A review of "The Thirteenth Tale: A Novel"

The Thirteenth Tale: A Novel

by Diane Setterfield

I downloaded this through Audible dot com. I got to listen to it while at the gym and on long car rides. After getting halfway into the book… I couldn’t stand to shut it off at times. I found myself wanting to know what happened next. It’s just a great “read” and would highly recommend this to anyone!
