One of the most moving books I have read in years — 3 years ago
Why I think everyone should read this book:
- it is rare to find a book that can make you shed tears of utter sorrow and then a few pages later laugh out loud – I am sure the people sitting next to me on the airplane had thought I was losing it.
- this book is well written as illustrated by the opening sentence “Summer here comes on like a zaftig hippie chick, jazzed on chlorophyll and flinging fistfuls of butterflies to the sun”
- it is not just about living in a small town in northwest Wisconsin…this book is about life, death, love, growing up, things changing, things remaining the same and finding our place in the universe.
- the author, Michael Perry, is a writer by trade and an EMT-firefighter when duty calls. He has a wonderful way of taking the complexity of life and boiling it down to a few key observations taken from his experiences.
Just read it and thank me later.
