A review of "Things To Do" — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

The review that I read before seeing this was, “Reminiscent at times of cult classics like OFFICE SPACE and NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE yet retaining a deadpan sensibility all its own.” (Justin Chang, Variety) It should have read, “A bad Canadian GARDEN STATE wannabe with an off-balance soundtrack.” There were multiple Sufjan Stevens songs, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it just felt off-kilter because it wasn’t completely Sufjan Stevens.

Ultimately, I should have saved my $9.

WORTH CONSUMING!

“Lady Cottington’s Pressed Fairy Book” is a delightfully illustrated book. For about 8 years, I’ve wanted to get a tattoo on my rear of the fairy on the cover. It’s perfect! Very creative coffee table book.

Charming Irish film — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Maybe “charming” is an over-used term for Irish films, but, hey, what can I say. It’s true. Waking Ned Devine focuses on two older buddies who discover that someone in their small village has won the lottery. In their search for the town’s new millionaire, they discover that the winner (Ned Devine) died from the shock. So they hatch a plan to “fool the lotto man” so that they can cash in. The plan requires the cooperation of the entire village. Of course, wackiness ensues.

One of my favorite movies — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Ok, I may have a thing for stoner movies, but I would barely classify it as such. What I love is that it’s really about community. The characters in the neighborhood don’t always get along, but they know each other and look out for each other. Awesome movie.

Too sweet — 2 years ago

It was almost syrupy. After I had a glass of it, I replaced what I had removed with water. That seemed to help it.

A must-see for Chicagoans — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Alright, I admit, I’ve only seen the first disc (of four) so far…but the others are on their way from Netflix as I write this. Like most PBS documentaries, it’s fantastic. Since I am a fairly recent transplant to Chicago, I figured I should learn something about the city. So I’m doing so from the comfort of my living room. Everyone who lives in Chicago, or especially grew up in Chicago, should see this series!!!
