A story about "Octopus" — 2 years ago

We tried this in December, when we found it in a local store and decided to give it a taste. While we were cooking it up, my best friend called and asked if it was okay for her to come up so we could exchange our Christmas presents, and of course I said yes. However, I did forget to mention that we were cooking octopus.

At our house, it’s improper not to invite last-minute guests to sit down and have supper with us, so we set another place for her and let her help herself to as much as she wanted. The first bite she took, she actually turned green. I felt so horrible!

I thought it was actually pretty good, but I felt guilty for not warning my friend of the exotic food we were serving her. We laugh about it now, but it was a bit distressing at the time.

I’m still sorry about the octopus!

WORTH CONSUMING!

When we were little, my brother and I loved to have our mother read us stories. She was so good at it! She had different voices for every character, and she really made the stories come to life.

This is one of the more memorable ones. I was fascinated by it, and it still creeps into my mind from time to time. I don’t know where the book went, but I would love to read it again, even if I don’t get to hear all those different voices this time around.

strange, yet alluring — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was possibly the oddest cup of tea I’ve ever had, and it made for a very interesting start to my day.

As the description I had read of this tea had promised, it turned out to be very complex. It had a deep, mysterious flavor, and I found myself sipping it slowly, savoring each drop and trying to figure out exactly how to describe it.

This is definitely a tea you have to experience on your own. I found it to be a bit strange, but as soon as I finished the first cup, I was craving another.

WORTH CONSUMING!

We bought this cd quite some time ago, after enjoying a hilarious show at the Arts Fest. We loved it, but it was soon cast aside for metal and forgotten, laying on the bottom of a dusty stack of cd’s.

I’m not sure who dragged it out, but a couple years later, we were sitting around a table, laughing at the witty lyrics, when the title track came up. We were in tears!

At that time, my mother was fighting cancer. The song reminded her of her and her own best friend from college. She cherished it, and the cd became a regular in the stereo.

Mom passed away last August, and when we found the cd again, we just couldn’t listen to it without crying. My brother brought it up a few days ago, though. Mom’s friend had sent her hilarious and uplifting cards and letters every single day from the moment she found out our mother had cancer, and now we’ve decided to send this to her. She needs to hear it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I bought this book right before my senior year of high school, and it gave me a good laugh. It really helped me get through all the tests, and at the end of the year, when I cleaned out my locker, I left it on the top shelf for someone else to find. I hope it put a smile on someone’s face!

very feminine — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Perhaps it’s the alluring scent, or its slightly floral taste, but this tea really stands out as being distinctly feminine. It does seem to be an acquired taste, but once you’re hooked, there’s no turning back.

I’ve found that its delicate flavor is easily spoiled by certain sweeteners (I never use granulated sugar with this tea!), but it does just fine on its own or with a very small amount of either brown sugar or pure honey. Keep a close eye on the time when steeping it though, as over-steeping also seems to ruin the flavor easily (but that’s just a matter of personal taste).

WORTH CONSUMING!

I read about this tea quite some time ago, and decided I wanted to try it. A tea that tastes like popcorn? Who could resist? It was a bit difficult to find, but I finally came across it in a specialty shop a few weeks ago.

At first, I didn’t think I liked it much. It was so different from any other tea I’d ever had! The next cup was quite enjoyable though, and I now have an entire tin of it in my tea cupboard.

I do think it can be a bit harsh, and that seems to depend more on the sweetener than the steeping time. I’ve found that brown sugar works best with this tea.

It’s a fun tea to have around, despite the fact that it can be a bit expensive. And yes, it really does taste like popcorn!
