WORTH CONSUMING!

Gorgeous, Clever, Remarkable, Highly Exciting…

Early sixties tunes, pleasant colors, not to mention that Hollywood stories (especially done this well) are a treat.

The more I watch it, the more I adore it!

Delicious.

A review of "Atonement (Widescreen Edition)" — 34 weeks ago

It’s strange.

The cinematography is stunning…there are several difficult or unique shots here, which make me want to give it more credit..and the love letter montage (with several attempts set to various songs) was gorgeous…but as far as the movie goes as a whole…....”Eh”

Unlike a few people/critics online whose opinions I continuously respect, I DO find McAvoy to be pleasing onscreen…he has the mannerisms of a stage actor, and when he (really) shoots, he scores, so his presence here increases my overall opinion….but at the risk of sounding superficial, Knightly in a backless dress is never a good idea, and this was an image that was unnecessarily repeated.

There were weak points in the screenplay, I’m guessing the novel is the way to go – but visually, this is certainly worth watching!

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This made me sick to my stomach. Extremely thin plot – so, a farmer wants to go into space….he seems to care more about this than he does his loved ones….and that about does it. The rest is ridiculous cliche small-town cheese & a handful of characters with no dimension that make up “the family”. The government “baddies” are cartoonish overdone stereotypes, and with lines like “Without the Rocket, we’re just a dysfunctional family!” one could imagine how unpleasant The Astronaut Farmer is…and therefore would find no reason to sit through it.

A Little Disappointing — 35 weeks ago

Recently embarked on Woody Allen quest, I checked this one out with hopes too high I suppose. It was disappointing, and left me with an uninteresting view of it that I can best describe as.. “yucky.” Hannah is ranked as number 95 on the Writer’s Guild List of the 101 Greatest Screenplays, which surprises me greatly considering it’s placid plot & cheap ending.

Wait - This is an ACTUAL MOVIE??? — 35 weeks ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I. Can. Not. Believe. This! The only way this film is watchable is via Rifftrax. It is clearly the result of bad directing all around. True, the writing & dialogue (including the overuse of “Rat-brain” and “Man Animal” to the point of stomach upset) is a huge factor in it’s hideousness, but the sets, score and wardrobe are equally awful. The performance by a bloated Travolta (who I believe thought he was participating in an extra long SNL sketch – which could also describe Scientology all together as a matter of fact!) only makes you feel embarrassed FOR HIM while watching.

If you decide to brave this dutch-angle Hell, have friends handy – prepare yourself for blue-sickness, and go into it with a nice buzz flowing.

Danny Boyle, You Are Magic — 36 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

What a remarkable way to tell a love story. As with all Boyle films, Slumdog is heavy with amazing shots and snazzy editing. There are elegant transitions here and an overall rhythm that sweeps you into (and along with) the action on screen. And of course, the soundtrack is simply perfect.

The performances are just as perfect, with endearing actors that swiftly stole my heart.

This film absolutely deserved the Oscar, as did Mr. Boyle.

WORTH CONSUMING!

What an ace, and as is always the case, this film would be nothing without him.

He plays this gruff character with ease, and next to him, the already disappointing performances of the young cast members come out looking/sounding even worse.

Though anything with Eastwood’s name attached is most certainly worth seeing.

I'd say you were within your rights to bite the right one & say, "what kept you so long ?" — 38 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Not only extremely well crafted, but adorable to the point that it stains your brain. The acting, direction, frosty setting – including all of the kids in their charming scarves & thick winter coats it suits the “cool” love story, or “First-Love” story, perfectly (& of course you can’t go wrong naming your story after a Morrissey song.)

This is a film that deserves recognition (& certainly SHOULD NOT be remade into some unnecessary Americanized mess!)
