A story about "Mad about the Boy (song)" — 2 years ago
Embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t heard this song before. Really nice one. Video at YouTube:

VERY stripped back. Reminds me of Hank Sr.:

The subject matter reminds me of Mellencamp or Springsteen with a more country slant:

It will require more listens to firm up whether I lean more towards Not Worth Consuming or Worth It! since some of the Dublin Sessions disc bores me and leaves me cold but some of it is pretty amazing (“If You Had a Vineyard” is a standout..much better than the more fleshed-out production on the London sessions disc.)
Many on Amazon expressed dislike of O’Connor’s take on the JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR chestnut “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” but I’m not sure why. It’s a nice updating.
Nothing is really outright BAD here (“Faraway Eyes” comes closest..it probably depends on if you’re in the mood for a tune mocking country music conventions that day or not) but only a few moments really shine either.
Head and shoulders above the rest is the classic rock ballad “Beast of Burden”. Also worthwhile are “Respectable” and “Miss You”.
Other than that, the tunes are middling rockers that sound OK but just aren’t anything special. (I don’t find myself humming them when the album ends….)
