A story about the last time I consumed "Exile On Main Street [Limited Edition]" — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

A flaw with AllConsuming I wish the Robots would address is: There’s no real ability to “change your mind” over time.

How many people have always felt exactly the same about every movie/book/TV show/album/food/etc. they’ve tried all the way throughout their lives?

In the real world, our tastes evolve.

Specifically, I ranked this “Not Worth Consuming” the first several times I consumed this. It’s now grown on me a bit to where I’d rank it “so-so” (I still think it’s wildly overrated but tunes like “Tumbling Dice”,”Ventilator Blues”,”Rip This Joint” and “Shake Your Hips” have won my favor now..)

But your only options (once you’ve rated it “Not worth” or “worth”) are to flip to the opposite extreme. You can’t say “Well, it’s OK…” after living with it for a longer period of time.

I also still believe the terms themselves are too vague. Does “Worth Consuming” mean worth hearing/watching/etc. ONCE? Or does it mean it’s worth spending cash on?

I’d favor the below options:
Not worth your time (the equivalent of 1-3 stars on a 10 star scale)
Worth trying once (probably 4-5 stars)
Worth buying (6-7 stars)
A must to consume (8-9 stars)
One of my favorites (10 stars)

Really sounds samey over 2 CDs — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Their sound didn’t vary a lot and only a few of them were really great so I yawned a lot over the course of 2 CDs. I think you could definitely do a good single CD on their best material and it would be more than adequate.

Never saw it coming — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I am NOT really a Will Ferrell fan for the most part. He occasionally hits on a role that works with him perfectly and when he does he’s worth watching (the evil fashion designer Mugato in ZOOLANDER, for instance..) but for the most part he plays the same type of one-dimensional, forced, juvenile comic lead I expect of most SNL alumni movies post-Eddie Murphy.

Until now.

Everything everyone who praises this is saying is correct. It really IS a wonderful, life affirming movie with nicely understated humor. It’s funny but doesn’t beat you over the head with its jokes. It’s warm and moving but without deliberately yanking on your heartstrings. And if you watch this movie and DON’T really think about whether you’re living your life or just existing, then I really feel sorry for the state of your soul.

Hopefully Ferrell can play more roles like this in the future..

Painful — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I realize it’s set in the Valley and there was bound to be plenty of “Gag me with a spoon”,”Grody” etc etc. But it seems all this had going for it was a ton of Val slang and a paper-thin plot. I’m a Cage fan but I only made it 1/2 hour in before I had to turn it off. The “good girl wants guy from the wrong side of the tracks” bit has been done many many times before and it was more entertaining in things like West Side Story and Grease. Pass on this one…

Better than I expect from the POG ladies — 2 years ago

While I can’t give this a full fledged recommendation, there are starting to be some edgy sonics here and there to make this disc better than their usual. “Down” particularly allows a bit of bite to the instrumentation and “Do it Again” is a pretty zippy piece of pop.

If they can continue that bent, maybe they can one day create a CD I’ll feel the need to own.

Heavily disappointed — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Got this from NetFlix because the premise sounded like a cross between Greg the Bunny (puppets talking “dirty”) and the satire of South Park. Alas, it was not to be.

The idea is that the puppets (A ventriloquist dummy, a teddy bear convicted for “moral terpitude”, and Cuddles, a Raggedy Andy looking doll with anger management issues) were sent to a halfway house with their caseworker, Dan, in hopes of rehabilitating them.

I watched an episode from Season 1 where the bear uses his irresistible softness to con Dan into giving him tickets to a hockey game. He continues to ply his fluffiness for favors until he realizes Dan wants to go to bed with him. (In this case, Dan only wants to sleep with the bear…he misses his carefree childhood and his own teddy bear…not “sleep with” him.) A sideplot finds Cuddles taming demons from the past in the form of a sadistic nurse who baited him with taunts of “Rooster”. It’s never explained why this bothers Cuddles or why I should find it funny. Eventually, Cuddles is driven to a clock tower, shooting manaically at crowds, until Dan talks him down.

Having only chuckled slightly at the first ep, I didn’t bother to watch the others and sent it and Season 2 back.

BOTTOM LINE:
The premise had lots of potential but I just didn’t laugh. Color me unimpressed.

I’m sure others will differ but this is way too syrupy for my taste. A fan of the Harry Potter series did a fan vid using the tune:

WORTH CONSUMING!

Semisonic is underappreciated. Other than the 1st disc (which was a little lackluster) I REALLY like their stuff. Dan Wilson writes some great pop songs.

Actually I’ve NEVER heard this on the radio. Did they even single this one? Great song though…
