More for alt rock/indie fans than Beach Boys fans — 7 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Most of this is just out and out weird. Far afield from the melodic pop of Brian. I understand you don’t want to do it exactly like it was first done because there’s no point in covering a song then, but these feel more like deconstuction than homage.

One of the most wretched things I've ever heard — 7 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I don’t have anything against disco: I love the best stuff from the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, etc. I don’t have anything against Elton: much of his 70s output is among the best rock ever made and some of his output after that (though more hit-and-miss) is also worthy. But this is just outright badly performed and horribly written lyrically (it wasn’t Taupin for this one, disco wunderkind Pete Belotte wrote most of the words here). There’s a discofied “Johnny B. Goode” on here for crying out loud! Run, far far away….

3 discs are too many — 7 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Hearing this in its entirety just confirmed for me that Journey didn’t have a vast collection of “great” songs that I just hadn’t heard before. Pre-Perry it’s slim pickings.

Pretty much the stuff you hear on A/C and classic rock radio IS the good stuff. Get ESSENTIAL (the 2CD set) for the best Journey collection. GREATESTHITS will have just about all the most well-known material if you’re on a tighter budget.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I “consumed” about an hour of this and finally decided I’d waited long enough for something to happen. How the heck did this thing win an Oscar??!?!

A story about "Orgazmo (Unrated Special Edition)" — 7 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

From South Park’s Trey Parker (Matt Stone also appears).

Basic plot is a Mormon guy going door-to-door witnessing accidentally becomes “action” porn star Orgazmo, complete with pleasure inducing Orgmarator™ gun, which renders would-be villains too ‘otherwise occupied’ to fight. Nice cameos from several big porn names (can’t remember names at the moment but the guy from the Surreal Life that also had Tammy Faye Bakker…you know the guy!). Not as funny as South Park but still worth a viewing or two.

A story about "The Time Traveler's Wife" — 7 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m still reading it so a review will come later but I’ll just say I started it yesterday and am 1/3 of the way in. Gripping read. I’d say it’s like PULPFICTION crossed with a love story because the plotline is out of sequence and you view it at times through timetraveling Henry’s eyes and at other times through his wife Clare’s. I’m really liking this so far.

EDIT:

Loved the book. Without giving spoilers, I’ll just say I was (pleasantly) surprised they avoided a cliche ending…

YAWWWWWWWNNN! — 7 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Very bland praise and worship. Only thing that got my attention at all was the Michael W. Smith/Anointed pairing on “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee”.

This is absolutely NOT one of the best Christian albums of all time and I really question the judgement musically of those who would feel that way.

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

Just OK — 7 years ago

Very run of the mill album. Certainly not 100 best fare. 3 really good songs on it though: title track, “Through His Eyes” and “When it’s Time to Go”.

Hugely overrated — 7 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

And I’m not some know-it-all teenager or 20-something who thinks it “sucks” if it’s pre-1980. Most of my favorite music is from the 70s actually. Really only 1 GREAT song (“Show me the Way”) and a kinda OK one (“Do you Feel What I Feel?”)

A story about "Doctor Zhivago (Two-Disc Special Edition)" — 7 years ago

First try was making me snooze a bit, I’ll try one more time before it’s back to the library with this…

EDIT: It’s August 20th now and I’m gonna give this another go…
