A question I have about "These Days" — 1 week ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Was this REALLY one of the best country music had to offer in 2006? I sure hope not. I don’t even dislike Gill…some of his stuff has a chance at making my “lifetime 1000 best songs” list but this was an overlong uninspiring snoozefest full of cliche and boilerplate tunes. Gill really needed someone to help him trim this down to 1 GOOD CD instead of 3 ho-hum ones.

One timer — 3 weeks ago

An occasional chuckle or two but nothing I’d ever need to buy.

If you’ve seen DODGEBALL, this is basically the same type of premise and jokes (ping-pong instead of dodgeball and “underground” tournaments instead of obscure sports channels) but most of them aren’t as funny.

Rarely does Walken seem wasted but he is here….

WORTH CONSUMING!

Considered by several critics to be the FIRST rock and roll song. (A “Rocket 88” was a type of car engine…for a Buick if I’m not mistaken.)

In 2007, acclaimed underground label Rawkus Records (Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Black Star) chose the project to be a part of Rawkus 50, a shortlist of some of the most promising independent hip-hop.

Way too "blah" — 11 weeks ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Listened to it and was instantly in love with “Athena”. Then thought “It’s Your Turn” was only OK. Nothing really grabbed me again until the charging “Eminence Front”. Then a couple yawners in “I’ve Known No War” and “One Life’s Enough”. Then a fine Entwhistle “I’m pissed off at my cheatin’ woman so I’ll cheat on her” song (“One at a Time”) and then several more dull tunes rounded out with 4 live cuts of the title tune, “Eminence”, “Dangerous” and “Cry if You Want” if you get the 1997 remaster. I expected more from The Who than this.

Sounds like it will be one I’ll like. Fans of John Reuben or Jason Mraz would probably like it. Links to samples/MP3 below:

Actually I meant to check this "wishy-washy" — 21 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Some good uptempo numbers slogged down wuth syrupy overbaked ballads. So pretty much your “average” pop album.

A story about "Woulda Shoulda Coulda (song)" — 22 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This album was pretty solid for a band that was by then over 20 years old (unlike some other “dinosaur” bands..cough Rolling Stones cough). This has a nicely taut rhythm line and a catchy hook.
