Read this book. You’ll find that Orwell wasn’t that far off year-wise when he wrote this novel (1948, for anybody who doesn’t know). It’s disturbing, really, and not in a campfire-ghost-story kind of way.

This version is a little better than the first-released, majorly-cut edition. Why? Because a couple of the characters, like the Trash Can Man (read it – you’ll find out who he is and why he matters) are more fully developed. Just don’t read this hardback while lying in bed. You’ll crush your windpipe.
