A story about "Moonspinners" — 2 years ago

This is one of my books that I was reading for the goal involving reading books that have been hanging around my house forever that I have never gotten around to reading. I started consuming this a year ago.

It is still one of those books that is hanging around my house waiting to be read.

Sigh! (Does watching the Haley Mills movie count toward marking this one as “done”?)

How "Becoming Jane" changed my life — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Oh was I bummed. At least for two days. Lovely film, but very bittersweet. Of course, they had to remain true to history and history indicates LeFroy was but a young flirtation of Jane’s. But still, he really did name his daughter “Jane”, so you have to wonder about that.

I would find it hard saying good-bye to James McAvoy. It is true he didn’t start out as a sympathetic character, yet I admired him as someone who allowed himself to be transformed for the sake of the one he loved and that is a quality that wins my heart: the willingness to be vulnerable and to grow in love.

A story about "Sun Chips Garden Salsa" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I didin’t like them as much as Cheddar Cheese Sun Chips, but they were OK.

.....

I mean—it’s not real cheese or real garden salsa anyway, right?

A story about "Saving Grace" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I was intrigued by the trailers for this and since it is on Monday nights right after The Closer, I decided to check it out. I’m glad I did. Holly Hunter as the title character Grace Hanadarko, an Oklahoma City police detective, is worth watching all on her own, but she is backed by a great cast including Laura San Giacomo of Just Shoot Me fame, Kenneth Johnson, Gregory Norman Cruz, Bokeem Woodbine, and Leon Rippy as Earl—a tobacco-spitting last-ditch angel. The fact that the show has an angel in it might be a little misleading after the sappiness of Touched by an Angel and I am concerned about saying too much lest people get turned off the show without ever watching it. It is enough to say Earl is a last-ditch angel because Grace is living a life on the edge and needs what only a blue-jean clad, tobacco-chewing, gravel-voice supernatural being can offer. Earl finds a dozen ways to challenge Grace to look at God and, in the process, to take a long look at herself, including allowing himself to be challenged to a bear-wrestling match in which Grace fights him with no holds barred. It is funny and thought-provoking at the same time.

A story about "tazo tea" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The deli across the street sells iced tea made from Tazo tea. I am not sure what type, but it is very strong and full-bodied. Kind of Lipton on steroids.

Cool Lips — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I just tried two shades of this: Papaya and Watermelon and both are nice, but the Papaya has an extra ingredient that the Watermelon does not: mint oil. It makes my lips cool and tingly. Very interesting.

A story about "Genesis 1:29 Bread" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A friend turned me on to this bread. Stores carry it in their frozen-food section, which seems odd, but this bread has no preservatives in it.

A story about "Deep Breakfast" — 2 years ago

Hmmmm. This kind of reminds me of the soundtrack for a Carl Sagan film. And then I found myself drifting off with images of chiffon and pink tutus and flamingos dancing in grand procession of a sweet exquisiteness and blank all-knowingness that is so excellent and j-.... huh-wh-a-UH? I’m awake…I’M AWAKE!

Sheesh!

I better not try that at work again. Maybe I should keep this on the shelf for meditation and other great snooze fests.

A story about "Seafood Enchiladas" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

These were voted the best seafood enchiladas in Houston by several internet sites. Perhaps because they are the only seafood enchiladas served in Houston? They are fat enchiladas, stuffed with crab and shrimp and covered in a white sauce and cheese. Very tasty. One is more than enough. Perhaps that “best” designation isn’t far from the mark. Even if they are the only seafood enchiladas in town.

A story about "Cross Bones (Temperance Brennan Novels)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Someone left this at our vacation cottage and I noticed the blurb on the front of the book about it being by the woman on whom the TV series “Bones” is based. I’m glad I did.

Very compelling reading. The characters are well developed with fresh, intelligent dialogue. Well plotted and well written. I really enjoyed it and decided to check out more of her books when I got back to the states.
