WORTH CONSUMING!

Aaaaack! If I could find my remote for the DVD player, I could actually watch this AND understand it,but alas!—no remote, no English subtitles. What is it they sing about a-n-t-i-c-i-p-a-a-a-t-i-o-n?

WORTH CONSUMING!

I discovered, right before I finished reading this, that Jack claims a dog ate the original ending of the scroll. Hmmm. I wonder if he had already perfected that one in school and decided to stick with it to explain mishaps with manuscripts. Do dogs really eat paper?

A question I have about "Le Fil" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Is the last song on this CD created almost entirely out of synthesized cell-phone ringtones whose frequency cannot be discerned by anyone older than 30 or is it really just one long vibrating sound, like a violin chord being held ad infinitum, like the whine of some giant electronic mosquito, like the drone of a computerized bee? Is this monotonal susurration supposed to have some existential significance—symbolic of an understated primal scream, perhaps? Its simplicity is a little too complicated for me.

And another question—why are all these young chanteuses so fond of striding around in their FMPs and recording the sound to tag onto the end of their songs? That has a sort of primality of its own, n’est-ce pas? These things are very intriguing to me.

A story about "Desperate Housewives - The Complete First Season" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I haven’t really watched much of this show after the first season, which I loved, until I watched it again last night. The brilliance of this show is how they can take the most absurd situations and make them completely believable.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Yawn – yet another series about the trials and tribulations of the über rich in Manhattan. This is being touted as a “grown-up ‘Sex in the City’” but that is only the wishful thinking of a bunch of marketing veeps who have been hired to foist this drech off on the general public, unless “grown-up” is a euphemism for “self-important and void of humor”. And how many martinis at lunch did it take to come up with that one? It must be true that one must sell their soul to arrive at such giddy financial heights because the four women in this show certainly seem to be lacking theirs. I tried to give it a fair hearing, but there just isn’t anything endearing about type-A personality bloodsuckers whining because the rest of the world doesn’t open its veins for them. What is really mind-boggling is that the pilot for this show only premiered last night, but there are already numerous fan sites on the web for it, which leads me to believe they were created by the aforementioned marketing people in a burst of optimism. There was nothing exciting enough about the show to drive anyone to their computer to start their own site for it. Too bad; I have really liked these women in other roles.

WORTH CONSUMING!

We spent New Years playing this game. It is really a clever idea—somehow or other playing this game generates donations of food to be distributed to the hungry. I try to play a little every day and it doesn’t take much time to rack up seven or eight bowls of rice. The side benefit is that it is one way of improving your English vocabulary.

A story about "New Beginning" — 1 year ago

The first two songs are kind of bathetic, but if you can wade through those two, this is a pretty good CD.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I enjoy this cd more and more the more I listen to it. It reminds me of Norah Jones and Rachel Yamagata, neither bad company to keep. And both, I might add singer/songwriters from the USA, just to point out that our lowly country is not devoid of its own shining talent.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Mmmmm. I love eating this stuff.

The blend of coconut, lime, lemongrass—heavenly. It can be a rude surprise to someone not anticipating the taste, though, as I found out to my dismay when I let my friend taste my soup. I almost snorted it out my nose and wasted some of the precious stuff over his reaction.

A story about "Ice Age (Single Disc Edition)" — 1 year ago

Some parts are wonderful. But the story line - hmm. Small, gregarious, verbose creature latches onto large, sulky, morose creature who, were these two creatures human, could easily be described as misanthropic for a comic misalliance and the large creature, while inadvertently helping the small creature, doesn’t want to be friends with it … Where have I heard this one bef- uh, wait a minute—it’s coming to me….

It’s not Mike Meyers and Eddie Murphy, but shades of Shrek!
