WORTH CONSUMING!

Finally: I’ve always enjoined Christy’s drumming style. When I learned about the this project with former Iced Earth/Judas Priest singer Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens and Steve DiGiorgio on Bass and Jason Suecof (Producer of Bands like Trivium) I somewhat had high expectations.

Well I’m not disappointed. Of course aside from the band name (which doesn’t really suggest it) this is Power Metal with Thrash Metal influences. This album does not create a new wheel but it offers a solid output and debut. The musicianship is very good. And for fans of Control Denied (like me): I think it’s the closest thing to it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

These two guys really have the talent to use samples in a way that it sounds like real musicians.

But I recommend their 2nd album “Waltz for Koop”, it’s better than this one, although “Koop Islands” is also good release

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

It’s always the same: when singers quit or die especially those with a character like Cobain and here Staley it’s always hard to imagine how a band can release a new album with a new one. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

This Alice LP surely doesn’t work for me. It’s definetly not Duvalls fault because I saw him on the recent warmup tour here in Germany and thought that his voice is great (although different than Layne’s).

But what I’ve found here on this album is:

  • A third Jerry Cantrell Solo release
  • much too less William
  • not that kind of AIC-tunes that made me listen to them

William sure is a great one but he lacks Layne’s emotion which are totally different.

Dirt remains the best. Maybe the next release with William Duvall will bring us closer to AIC but not that one.

Alice’s first output in years, I was looking forward to that. And somehow I think there’s more to come because this song is a Jerry Cantrell song. Duvall has still to prove how he’ll fill the gap left by Layne.

Also this song reminds me of Jerry’s 2nd solo effort, very dark, slow.

But nevertheless I’ll still keep the new album on my wish list. And: next month I’m going to see them live!

Star Trek is back! — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

You know I loved and enjoyed (more or less) all ST movies. The J.J. Abrams ST left me somewhat sceptically. Although I highly enjoy ‘Lost’ I wasn’t sure about how the film would turn out.

Luckily the film wasn’t bad at all, Abrams and his crew managed to make a good movie and rebooted somehow the franchise.

In my opinion Eric Bana could have more screentime as his character came in too short.

Just so you know: It’s completely different than the previous parts (not 100% but most of it), you’ll motice that. Give it a try.

Why I recommend "Year Of The Cycos" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Alright,

another new Cyco Family album featuring ST, Infectious Grooves, No Mercy and Cyco Miko.

After a long hiatus they have returned and it’s really good, like ST! And some tracks feature also Robert Trujillo. Get more infos here:

that this show has been cancelled. Bryan Fuller created a better version of “Dead like me” (also cancelled). People who like a Tim-Burtonesque show will be entertained here.

Entertaining — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Probably most entertaining movie since Blade (I don’t count Dark Knight since it’s DC). Normally I don’t like Marvels but here they made a nice flick.

Sure the placing of the warlord setting (Afghanistan) was not the best, but I don’t see any reference to TWAT

WORTH CONSUMING!

First things first: people who expect the same or a continuation of 93s Focus will be a little disappointed: 15 years have passed by so it’s just not possible to incorporate or keep up all elements that made Focus special. Growls are far more less used here, also the synth vocals/vocoder. What remained are the excellent musical craftmanship connected with strong songwriting. Nevertheless this album is still a wonderful piece of music, people should try it. I’ve bought the album instantly. 35 Minutes of beautiful music.

One Step Forward — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

While I think that Dido’s debut was really beautiful I was kinda disappointed with her second release as it shows no real step forward.

For this release Dido seemed to had some new ideas: basically it’s Dido and the music but the choice for natural (or very natural sounding samples) instruments is turning this album into something different, refreshing.

And as always Dido’s voice is incomparable to others … Like it!
