A story about "Arranged" — 23 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Well, not the best form (strictly looking at the execution), and the intentional lack of subtlety sometimes was too much to my taste… still worth consuming. Alright, I might be biased when tolerance is the subject :)

A story about "Banker to the Poor: Micro-Lending and the Battle Against World Poverty" — 27 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

it starts with a little bit of cultural background and history and then turns into how the micro-lending effort started and evolved, and of course, I was curious to know about the process. Well, a bit of (over-)simplification, it comes down to providing a service where nobody else did… simple, eh? Well, maybe it doesn’t have to be too complicated! Even though I’m not too fond of a general greed vs. social-conscience categorization, I find it impressing how by clarifying the focus of his work the great results followed.

Having someone else narrate an autobiography is not natural, right? Or is it just me?

A story about "The Immoralist (Dover Thrift Editions)" — 33 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It took me more than what the number of pages would suggest to read this. I liked it though, I think… I liked the strict truthful no-nonsense tone of the narrative, even though at times it is hard to rationalize the true feelings for the audience.

Why I recommend "Crisis" — 36 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked this one very much. The plot, the characters, the pace, the narrative, the form… I think I’m gradually turning into a Bergman fanatic fan. :)

A story about "If I Were in Charge of the World and Other Worries: Poems for Children and their Parents" — 38 weeks ago

Well, the poetry (and some of the “worries”) is, in my opinion, too grown-up for a book meant for children. I liked the illustrations very much, though! Well done, Ms. Cherry! :)

It's — 38 weeks ago

a 10-CD audio book, and, umm…, let’s say I’m not too fond of it. I liked the last portion, but the first parts (especially the first CD) were very hard to listen to. “it ought to get better eventually,” repeat telling yourself, until it does!

A story about "After Dark (Audio CD)" — 43 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I had a feeling that the descriptive parts would have been more enjoyable in the original language (not that I understand Japanese, but something in the translation made me uncomfortable). I liked the story, nonetheless.

Why I recommend "Hearing Voices - Collected Stories & Drawings" — 51 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

this is a collection of interesting thoughts (and stuff!), with, err… unique drawings. Very quick read, unless you decide to make it take longer :)

Oh, and there are no page numbers… I thought that was sweet.

Just got my scanner re-installed and had to scan something! :)

Why I recommend "A Long Long Way" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was one of the better books I’ve read lately. I liked the language, a third-person narration that’s too close to the mind of Willie Dunne – a young Irish soldier fighting the WW1 and caught in the personal and social conflicts associated with it – to be anyone but him. The story is sad and at times tense (as any war story would be), but still filled with sweet moments of humanity and hope.

Why I recommend "The Little Prince: Sixtieth-Anniversary Gift Edition" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book is one of my all time favorites. The first time I read it, it was years ago, I was 6 or 7, it was in a children’s magazine (they had taken out the ending of it, for apparent reasons), and I fell in love with it. I’ve read it a couple of times since then, and each time I come to appreciate it more.

It’s a sweet story of friendship, filled with a variety of point of views, and a nice reminder of how we can lose sight of what is important.
