In the Land of Women

this was amazing and heart breaking all at once.

So real feeling. Carter (the main character guy) was just spectacular. His character was my guy. Really he was. Maybe that’s why I loved the movie so much.

He reminded me of this guy I knew and loved in high school, but I thought that everything I pondered about him, about us, was just teen foolishness. I thought that I wasn’t really seeing anything special about him, I was just imagining it. Now I wonder why I doubted myself so much.. I was definitely onto something with him.. He had that same thing Carter had that was lonely and confused, but ready to stand strong and hold you.

I think the whole movie was about connections, confusion, the imperfect nature of human life. Loneliness and heartbreak and at the same time miracles- but not the cheesy kind- the real kind…

Respiro

A lot of grabbing people and pulling them back.
The father pulling the mother home, the sons pulling her away from the boat, the father pulling/pushing the son around, the son pulling his sister away from her date etc.

I didn’t think it was the greatest really. I guess the ending was meant to be profound and open ended, but I don’t think I really got it. I found parts artistic, other senseless.
It wasn’t great, but worth watching still.

You know.. it’s 29 weeks later and I can’t remember what this movie was like at all, but I still can’t get the scene out of my mind where the girl stands in front of the man she has just slept with and gets him to pick out all of her bodies imperfections. That was a powerful scene. I wish someone could put it on Youtube so I could take another look at it.
That was a brilliant scene.

Lost and Delirious

Using a lesbian relationship for ratings? Probably. Has the lesbian-love-affair-conflicted-by-homophobic-society plot been done before? Most definitely.

Although I found this movie too over dramatic for my tastes I did like some things. I really enjoyed this quote;

“Paulie: Lesbian? Lesbian? Are you fucking kidding me, you think I’m a LESBIAN?
Mouse: You’re a girl in love with a girl, aren’t you?
Paulie: No! I’m PAULIE in love with TORI. Remember? And Tori, she is, she IS in love with me because she is mine and I am hers and neither of us are LESBIANS!”

The loss of labels, leaving only love. Truly spectacular

Lolita

I don’t rate this two stars because I find the plot line inappropriate. I think I rate it poorly because I found the humbert along with many of the happenings in the story line to be unbelievable. The ending was not intriguing and the picture caught my interest very few times. I will say however Sue Lyon did a remarkable job playing the role of Lolita.

You Are Not a Stranger Here?

I won’t write a lot to review this simply because there is just so much to write.

The best story in my humble opinion was

‘The Beginnings of Grief’

A wise look into the life of a confused, dealing with the death of his parents through masochism.

‘The Volunteer’ was a close second

And finally ‘A Good Doctor’

Fabulous book.. and just to rub it in everyones faces.. I bought it brand new for 2$!! mwhahaa
